2025 NFC Draft Class: A Focus on Offensive Linemen

In evaluating prospective standouts in the 2025 AFC draft class, it’s noticed that most talent lie within skill positions. However, this pattern isn’t mirrored in the NFC; the potential game-changers seem to be offensive linemen set to debut as rookies. Let’s examine these promising players, with our focus primarily on first-round picks. The list is organized in decreasing order in terms of their potential influence.

Take Grey Zabel, for instance. Selected by the Seattle Seahawks, Zabel is an exceptional guard looking to rectify the offensive line difficulties experienced by the team in the 2024 season. With Sam Darnold joining as the new pilot of the offense, and with his mobility being less than the previous incumbent Geno Smith, Zabel’s role becomes pivotal.

Addressing their quarterback protection issues, the Seahawks chose Zabel hoping he will help reduce their last season’s soaring sack rates, second worst in the league. Coming from North Dakota State, Zabel brings a valuable performance lift to the Seahawks’ offensive approach, with a heightened attention to the run game under the direction of the new offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak.

Zabel’s capability to fit into various roles will give the Seahawks the fluidity they need in their offensive line, particularly if the struggles they’ve been facing persist.

Moving south to Texas, another guard is making headlines. Tyler Booker, from Alabama, has been picked by the Dallas Cowboys who are focusing on strengthening their offensive line rather than opting for a skill-position player. Despite public expectations tilting towards Dallas drafting a receiver or running back, the team leaned on its skill in fostering offensive linemen.

Although a guard doesn’t often receive the spotlight in drafts, Booker stood out as a top-15 contender in this year’s series. Given the history of significant injuries suffered by the Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott, the emphasis on safeguarding him couldn’t be more prevalent. Booker is positioned to play a crucial role here.

Riding northwards, we reach Green Bay, where Matthew Golden, a wide receiver, is garnering attention. After spending two seasons at Houston, Golden made a significant move to Texas, which did not go unnoticed by football scouts.

Despite inconsistent performance, multiple teams acknowledged the promise in Golden, making him a first-round selection. Counted as the first wide receiver to be drafted by the Packers since 2022, his potent potential plays an essential part in the team’s future considering the likely departure of other key receive players in 2025 season.

Green Bay needs to fill a void in its WR1 position, and Golden has the opportunity to rise to that challenge and end their multi-year search for a solid wide receiver.

Heading back south to Atlanta, we find an emphasis on improving sack production, which was woeful in 2024. The Falcons doubled their efforts by claiming two pass-rushers in the first round. Among them is Jalon Walker originating from Georgia, along with Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr.

Walker’s drop beyond the top 10 in the draft came as a surprise given his strong standing on the performance ladder. Though smaller for a typical pass-rusher, with a size of just 6-foot-2 weighing 245 pounds, his raw energy and versatile skill-set are qualities that inspire optimism about his NFL prospects.

Finally, making our way eastwards, we arrive at the New York Giants, who veered from the usual course by choosing a defensive stand out—Abdul Carter—over a quarterback. This strategic choice positioned the Giants in an unfolding game plan of also swooping in a franchise quarterback later in the same round.

Carter, standing tall at 6-foot-3 and weighing 250 pounds, was a notable force in college-level defense last season. His dominative play was on full display during the College Football Playoff against Notre Dame, where he managed a sack, seven pressures, a remarkable 22% pressure rate, and three run stops despite struggling with a shoulder injury.

His addition to the Giants, who already boast one of the best defensive lines in the NFL, has raised excitement about the team’s defensive future.

Each one of these players has the potential to heavily impact their team’s performance. From offensive linemen in Washington and Texas, to wide receivers in Green Bay, and EDGE players in Atlanta and New York, they all carry the promise and burden of reshaping, even revolutionizing, the game in their own unique ways.

They are the emerging stars of NFC, first-round selections imbued with immense promise. How they’ll rise to the occasion and navigate the often treacherous and unpredictable realm of professional football is what makes the upcoming season highly anticipated among football aficionados.
