Tireless Trump Reignites Hopes, Harris Sticks to Dull Script
With Election Day only three days away, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are ardently aiming their final appeals towards the voters. Trump is expected to tour the sunbelt, with scheduled appearances in North Carolina and Virginia this Saturday. As dusk falls, the unflagging President will swing back to North Carolina for a vibrant rally. Harris, on the other hand, is also seen making her moves in the South.
The Vice President has slated a public gathering in Atlanta, followed by another event in the city of Charlotte. Curiously, Trump’s diligent campaigning effort in Virginia came to fruition during the conclusive weekend of the election. This move may seem unfavorable since Virginia has been a Democratic stronghold for the past two decades.
However, showcasing his optimistic perspective, Trump addressed the teeming crowd in Salem, Virginia, saying, ‘We’re going to win Virginia. Everyone needs to get out and cast their votes.’ Further fortifying his confidence, he said, ‘Securing a win in Virginia means we’ve clinched the victory without a doubt.’ He kindled the crowd’s anticipation, asking, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’
Unlike Trump’s optimism, his Democratic counterpart, Harris, led by around six percentage points according to the polls, just before Election Day is set to break. Incidentally, the surveys carried out across multiple battleground states – Pennsylvania, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia – depicted an evenly matched race.
Interestingly, shortly after Trump’s spirited campaigning close to Charlotte, N.C., Harris launched her plea to the voters of the state. Harris resorted to sticking to her typical speech script, alleging that Trump intends to keep the nation split and anxious. Simultaneously, she outlined her cost-saving plans for the United States.
Harris reminded the voters in North Carolina about the limited time left and expressed her wish for them to have ‘no regrets’ about their actions targeted at encouraging those who are yet to place their votes. As Harris made her exit from Air Force Two, her adversary’s aircraft was spotted a mere 50 yards away.
Harris touched down in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, where she scheduled a rally later in the day. Earlier that day, Trump had already addressed a rally in Gastonia, N.C., which is in close proximity to Charlotte. The former President then moved onward to Salem, Virginia before making his way back to North Carolina to wrap up the day with an event in Greensboro.
Meanwhile, Harris’s campaign in Georgia was supported by an appearance from the First Lady, Jill Biden. Jill Biden reminisced about her previous visit to Macon during October 2020, when Trump was still at the helm. She claimed rather irrationally that ‘the pandemic was raging, and schools were closed, with Trump creating chaos at every turn; that was four years ago.’
During her recent visit to Georgia, ahead of Election Day, Harris confidently assured the voters in Atlanta of her victory. However, she encouraged those who had not yet participated in voting to cast their votes for her in this extremely close election. Both Harris and former President Trump are almost head-to-head in the state, with Trump marginally trailing at 48% against Harris’s 47% among likely voters.
In a fascinating development, Harris plans to oversee the unfolding of the vote counts from her alma mater, Howard University, as announced by her campaign earlier this week. More women have indulged in early-voting, with their turnout largely surpassing men’s by close to 10 percentage points. This trend is viewed by the Harris campaign and Democrats as an encouraging sign, although its significance remains challenging to decipher.
Apart from Atlanta, Georgia, Harris is all set to devote her Saturday to Charlotte, North Carolina, both of which are major battleground states. Large-scale rallies, with eminent personalities in attendance, have been planned at these locations. Democratic vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz will be campaigning alongside actress Eva Longoria on Saturday morning in Las Vegas, Nevada, considered to be a crucial swing state for achieving a victory next week.
With Election Day fast approaching, potential weather disruptions in certain regions (storms and showers) might pose minor obstacles in reaching the poll booths. Harris is expected to be present in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon for a ‘Get Out the Vote’ campaign rally. She then plans to travel to Charlotte for a similar event later in the day.
Trump, too, has a packed schedule, with a planned stop in Gastonia, N.C. for a noon rally. Following this, the former President will head to Salem, Virginia, located a few hours North of the North Carolina border. Wrapping up his Saturday campaign, Trump will be back in North Carolina for a Greensboro rally during the evening.
