DeKalb County’s Leap towards Real-Time Crime Center
The governmental body of DeKalb County has recently signaled that it is gearing up to establish a cutting-edge real-time crime center. Hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, the County authorities are beginning to lay the groundwork for increasing investments in law enforcement wages and strength. According to Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, the CEO of the County, the primary goal of this advancement lies in utilizing technological innovations to inhibit criminal activity and promptly capture any culprits. It’s about broadening a technology-centric framework, which enables the law enforcement personnel with prompt analysis, hastens probes, and promotes better safety within communities.
Information from the said County officials suggests that they recently took a journey through multiple centers in the vicinity of metro Atlanta. This tour was organized to gain insights from the Loudermilk Video Integration Center of Atlanta City, Cobb County’s Real-Time Crime Center, and the state-of-the-art Real-Time Crime Center of Dunwoody Police Department. The aim behind this regional tour was to comprehensively understand their tried and proven methodologies, and to gain vital knowledge about how they put in place their technology-oriented infrastructure.
The insight yielded from their touring experience will assist the County in constructing its own Real-Time Crime Technology center. The planned center is poised to be a place that amalgamates modern surveillance, examination of data, drone technologies, and coordinated emergency responses. The DeKalb County authorities have assured their constituents that the new center will be a flagship facility.
Chief Information Officer, William Jones, underscored that the center is aimed at optimizing the method of acquiring, assessing, and acting on real-time data. The new venture in escalating anti-crime technologies follows several stages of pay rises for law enforcement personnel. The emulation of this upgrade is contingent on roles and prior experience. For example, police recruits are now slated to receive $61,000, which can be augmented to $64,050 if they hold a degree.
Moreover, police officers, having had more practical experience, will witness their annual earnings increase to $62,525. The remuneration package will reach $65,651 for those officers who can demonstrate they have obtained some level of college education.
Elevations from the rank of a police officer result in further salary augmentations. The County has stated that senior officers will now receive an increase in their wage package to $70,000. For those who have pursued higher education, the annual earnings will increase to $73,500.
Taking into account the higher-level command personnel such as sergeants, lieutenants, captains, majors, and more, the salary increases will be a flat 7.1% regardless of their position. It is important to note that these adjustments to the wage structures have already been implemented from the first of March.
In addition to the heightened salary structure, the County has been hosting recruitment events in a bid to augment the police force’s personnel. In a recently held drive, the County was able to attract as many as 83 aspirants who wished to contribute to law enforcement in the region.
The County has proclaimed that of those 83 attendees of the hiring event, 35 applicants were able to progress further in their ambition to join the police force. In parallel, an additional six aspirants are currently undergoing the assessment process.
