Footage Shows Arrest of Woman Accused in Tragic 11-Year-Old’s Homicide
In recently available footage from a body-worn camera, an unexpressive woman, accused of communicating to a 911 responder about her son’s fatal stabbing, is seen voluntarily approaching the law enforcement officers who subsequently take her into custody. This tragedy took place at the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Santa Ana, California on the 19th of March, as announced by the District Attorney’s Office in Orange County. The unfortunate young victim, an 11-year-old boy, was found with severe injuries to his neck. The accused, Saritha Ramaraju aged 48, was detained on the motel premises and was held accountable for the murder.
As disclosed by Law & Crime, a clip from the bodycam tapes of her apprehension depicts Ramaraju moving in the direction of the officers conducting the arrest. One officer can be heard beckoning her as she leaves a room at the motel. She seems to be engaged in a telephonic conversation while advancing slowly along the motel’s balcony towards the law enforcement officers. There seems to be ongoing communication from her end until she comes halt.
When officers approach her and initiate the arrest procedure, an officer remarks she has blood on her hands. Ramaraju appears to accept the situation quietly, offering no verbal objection or posing any physical resistance during the arrest. The video gives evidence of minor blood stains visible on her attire’s sleeve. Interestingly, Ramaraju’s feet were covered in socks but lacking shoes.
According to reports, Ramaraju is believed to have taken the initiative to inform the police about the homicide on the morning of the event. Allegedly, she confessed to the stabbing death of her son and admitted having consumed pills intending to commit suicide. She was the primary caretaker for her son during the time of the incident, during which they had come back from a vacation at the Disneyland lasting three days.
It is stated that the day of the murder coincided with the scheduled date for Ramaraju to return her son back to the father’s custody following scheduled visitation rights. Ramaraju had ended her marriage with her son’s father in the year 2018, as per information from the authorities. A particularly gut-wrenching sight, according to investigators, was witnessing the young victim’s body located amidst Disneyland mementos.
Along with the heartbreaking sight, investigators on the scene located a sizable kitchen knife that is believed to have been acquired just a day before the gruesome act. After ingesting an unidentified substance, Ramaraju was initially transported to a healthcare facility before her arrest took place.
Due to the severity of her actions, Ramaraju was initially indicted with one count of felonious murder and an additional felony enhancement linked to the personal utilization of a weapon, specifically a knife. This was based on the information released by the Office’s statement.
Furthermore, an escalated charge of special circumstances murder has been proposed by the office, with one special consideration being the premeditated acquisition of the weapon, the knife, used for the crime just a day before. If the escalated charge is accepted, it could potentially result in Ramaraju receiving a sentence as severe as the death penalty, as stated by the office.
As of now, Ramaraju has been assigned legal representation by a public defender. Up to this point in time, no plea has been entered on her behalf.
