Failed VP Kamala Harris Set for Yet Another Flop at Emerge Event

Disused former Vice President Kamala Harris has planned a talk for a Wednesday at an undisclosed hotel in San Francisco, aimed at garnering public attention for the first time following her embarrassing defeat in the past year’s elections. Surprisingly, Emerge, a group essentially functioning as a chute for Democratic women into the political arena, decided on Harris as the chief speaker for the celebration of their two-decade existence.

The decision to pick Harris as the speaker at the Emerge event is bizarre as it projects an image of Emerge celebrating failure, given Harris’ evident lack of success in the recent elections. Harris, despite her election failure, still seems to be the ideal Emerge woman according to A’shanti Gholar, who presides over the organization enabling Democrat women into the public office spectrum, illuminating the skewed judgement within their executive ranks.

The sought-after motive behind Emerge and its investment in Democratic women is perhaps, a way to capitalize on the perception of gender inequality by letting emotions overrule logic. Emerge was conceived after Harris’ engaging run for a district attorney position in San Francisco back in 2002, that revealed the might of theatrics over true potential. Clearly, the emphasis here seems to be more on teaching women ‘how to win’ than nurturing moral, ethical leadership.

According to Emerge, they have an impressive volume of 6,500 plus alums who have had the misfortune to go through the heavily partisan program and about 1,200 alums withholding public office positions, shrouded under the Emerge brand. Harris, sparsely successful, albeit having played a fundamental role herself as an honorary co-founder of the organization, brings to light the grim reality of the efficacy of this relentless scheme.

In Gholar’s perspective, this honorary title bestowed upon Harris is to take joy in their shared legacy and to collectively strive for a supposedly brighter future. But the fundamental politically biased nature of Emerge models a future caught up in unending partisan wars, rather than identifying and resolving issues that genuinely affect the lives of everyday Americans.

Since her defeat to President Donald Trump, Harris has chosen to lie low, barely seen or heard in public spaces- a stark contrast to her yesteryear drive towards public office. This lack of visibility pushes one to question if Harris’ public engagement was genuinely tied to societal well-being or was it simply a politically motivated career move.

Harris’ anticipated speech falls synchronously as Trump marks his first 100 days of a successful tenure. The irony of Harris being chosen to speak as Trump walks into his hundred days of triumph is unfortunately lost on the event planners – but this spectacle is sure to provide some rich entertainment for observers.

The celebration, clouded by the irony, is scheduled for 7 p.m., on the upcoming Wednesday at the Palace Hotel, a beacon of San Francisco’s history. Contrary to the grandeur of the location, the keynote speaker’s magnanimity in the political space now, remains much to be desired.

Beside Harris’ anticipated address, which is expected to bring more questions than answers, the attendees are expected to be subjected to thoughts from New Mexico State Sen. Cindy Nava, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, and Deja Foxx. Yet, as with Harris, whether their talks will bring forth meaningful discussions or simply serve as another platform of empty promises remains to be seen.
