Justin Gaethje Proposes Chaotic New Flavour to UFC Battles

Former BMF champion, Justin Gaethje, recently provoked some chatter in the UFC community with his unconventional proposal. The brawler shared his aspiration of going head-to-head in a chaotic four-way fight with the likes of Islam Makhachev, Dustin Poirier, and Max Holloway. He described this as his ultimate dream match. The only occasion where something akin has been witnessed occurred in Russia, where four-way altercations stirred up mayhem.

In addition, Eddie Hall’s impressive ability to simultaneously tackle two combatants in a gripping match and defeat them has been noteworthy. However, Gaethje’s concept has intrigued some UFC legends, causing them to consider and elaborate upon the concept. Despite the high probability of the athletic commission rejecting this unconventional proposition, in theory, it still presents an entertaining prospect.

On an episode of the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast on YouTube, Daniel Cormier, also known as ‘DC’, and Chael Sonnen pondered their ideal four-way brawl. Sonnen immediately expressed his regret if he never gets to witness Pereira take on Jon Jones in a fight before his tenure in the sport concludes.

Upon some reflection, Sonnen added the UFC interim champion Tom Aspinall to his potential match-up, citing Aspinall’s impending clash with Jones. Yet, the former middleweight fighter didn’t stop there. In order to satiate his ‘evil side’, he suggested the addition of Francis Ngannou as the fourth contender.

With this selection, Sonnen believes he would achieve the trifecta of fan-favourite battles. Despite his personal opinion that Ngannou would not stand a chance against the other fighters, Sonnen expressed his fascination with the inevitable tumult that would surface if these four athletes meet in the octagon.

Cormier and Sonnen afterwards speculated on the course such a match would take. They predicted that a joint attack on Jon Jones by the other combatants would be the most plausible approach to eliminate a formidable adversary. However, they acknowledged that the possibility of this particular scenario materialising seems unlikely.

Such a speculative scenario is rendered even less feasible owing to Jones’ current complex situation. Anticipation has been building among fans for the UFC to confirm the specifics of the heavyweight title match. However, Sonnen suggested that this announcement will not be forthcoming in the near future.

In a recent disclosure, Sonnen relayed a conversation he had with a close associate of Jon, one of Jon’s coaches. He queried about Jon’s upcoming fight against Tom, to which the coach responded that it would most likely occur the next year rather than this one.

If these declarations hold true, Jon Jones would surpass a period of 900 days as the heavyweight champion, but having defended his title a mere one time. This achievement would see Jones overtake Cain Velasquez and set a record for the longest duration a fighter has held the revered title of UFC heavyweight champion in history.
