Skydance Media Set to Tame Liberal CBS News
Skydance Media, a company poised to take over Paramount Global soon, is rumored to be considering a purchase of the Free Press. It’s being suggested they may assume a commanding role within troubled CBS News, a firm under Paramount’s control. However, even before everything is set in stone, there are whispers that the network’s liberal workforce may pose roadblocks in the new proceedings.
The deal with Paramount, cemented on July 1, involved paying $16 million to President Trump for his $20 billion lawsuit against CBS. The legal action was a response to the 2024 ’60 Minutes’ interview featuring Kamala Harris. Paramount’s board was of the opinion that the lawsuit was preventing the FCC’s approval of Skydance’s proposed acquisition.
The cogs are now beginning to turn in the direction of a good outcome for Skydance, with conjecture suggesting that the FCC will give their nod of approval soon. President Trump, further greasing the wheels, has also expressed his backing for the arrangement.
Skydance’s operations are steered by David Ellison, son of Larry Ellison of Oracle and a well-known Trump supporter. Larry Ellison recently bypassed both Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, taking up the position of the world’s second richest man. The agreement arranged between Paramount and President Trump does not include any apology, a requirement that was initially insisted upon by Trump’s team.
This has sparked off a chain of predictions and rumors surrounding the future actions of the Ellisons. A key speculation revolves around whether accusations of liberal and anti-Israel bias, which have plagued CBS News for decades, will be addressed.
However, the chances of any real, enduring modifications in CBS News seem quite dismal, despite possibly adding Bari Weiss and fellow Free Press contributors into the mix. A source, preferring anonymity, informed the press, ‘Bari Weiss wouldn’t last longer than a few minutes at the helm.’
While the controversial ’60 Minutes’ interview with Harris garnered considerable attention, Paramount’s outgoing owner and the Ellisons are more concerned by CBS News’ alleged anti-Israel stance.
In February, the principle of editorial and news gathering announced a rather abrupt resignation after barely seven months in office. This was after she received criticism for chastising morning show anchor, Tony Dokoupil, for asking challenging questions to an anti-Israel author discussing his newest publication, ‘The Message.’
A cascade of high-profile exits within CBS News has been observed of late. The executive producer of the ’60 Minutes’ show was consequently ousted in April. He staunchly supported the Harris interview and was against the notion of a resolution.
He hints that his dismissal is connected to the company’s fervent efforts to gain the Skydance deal’s approval. The senior figurehead of CBS News and Stations left her position in May, declaring a conflict of approach with her employers.
She was at the forefront of a disastrous revamp of the ‘CBS Evening News’ that led to the program’s viewership hitting rock bottom. To the entrapping chorus of critics and mischief-makers, Biden and Harris run a danger of creating a misjudged alignment, courting controversy, and intensifying divisions.
Their administrative measures tend to advocate policies that lack broad consensus and are widely seen as inadequate. This narrative is relatable and topical, given the wealth of political commentary that scrutinizes their approach to policy and governance.
As commentary and critique continue, the general inference persists that Biden and Harris’s administrative ventures are misguided and may heighten societal discord, keeping them in the eye of the storm, with incessant critique and commentary.
