Dillon Danis Triumphs in First MMA Championship Title
After a considerable hiatus from the MMA spotlight, Dillon Danis secured his first MMA championship title, causing a stir in the fighting community. The widely debated fighter delivered a succinct and decisive victory over Warren Spencer, a newcomer to the MMA scene, at the Misfits Boxing 22 event. Danis, showing his signature grappling skills, triumphed with a 15-second submission to become the inaugural holder of the Misfits MMA light heavyweight title. The momentous event unfolded at Manchester’s prominent AO Arena in England.
Danis’ encounter with Spencer was his first foray back into MMA since his last fight in 2019, making his championship win even more notable. This victorious comeback has stirred anticipation about Danis’ future in the league, showing that he’s still a credible force in the fight scene.
Following his whirlwind win, the triumphant Danis seemed to engage in a banter-filled conversation with Eddie Hall, a renowned English strongman. An excited Hall teased that he would drop his weight to less than 300 pounds. The comment triggered a jovial response from Danis, who said, ‘Alright, we have a deal,’ sparkng whispers about a forthcoming face-off.
Yet, Danis’ call outs weren’t confined to just Hall. UFC’s prized fighter, Islam Makhachev, and KSI, one of the co-founders of Misfits Boxing, were also mentioned. This no-holds-barred attitude reaffirms the fighting spirit of Danis, feuling anticipation for a string of electrifying matchups.
Known particularly for his jiu-jitsu prowess, Dillon Danis holds a treasured black belt in the discipline. His match against Spencer offered an ideal platform to demonstrate his grappling expertise. Barely minutes into the encounter, Danis seized the opportunity for an early clinch with his less experienced adversary.
The fresh-faced Spencer was met with swift offense as Danis skillfully moved him into a down position. Following this tactical move, Danis clinched a grappling chokehold – a manoeuvre known in fighting circles as the deadly ‘guillotine’ from mount position. His move elicited an immediate tap from Spencer, declaring the end of the fight.
Danis, already a known entity at 32, had gained prominence as a grappling specialist, further acknowledged through his association with Conor McGregor, the former two-division champion from UFC. However, over the past few years, his fighting career had been stuck at a plateau, adding more gravitas to his recent win.
Before his momentous return, Danis had marked his territory in the Bellator series during 2018-19 with spectacular first-round submission victories. Yet, his presence in the fight ring became conspicuously scarce afterwards until he re-emerged for an unusual 2023 boxing contest opposite Logan Paul.
The boxing face-off with Logan Paul ended in an unforeseen turn of events, resulting in Danis’ disqualification. This surprising outcome further fueled anticipation around Danis’ next steps in his fighting career, casting a shadow over his future ventures.
Adding to his string of misfortunes was the collapse of two scheduled matchups in the early days of 2025. One of them was an MMA skirmish against Tony Ferguson for the Global Fight League, which, unfortunately, never took off, contributing to the disjointed trajectory of his fighting career.
The other quashed bout was supposed to be a showdown at a Misfits Boxing match against the British influencer, KSI. Sadly, that fight also failed to occur, culminating in another frustrating roadblock in Danis’ journey back to the ring.
