Kristi Noem Exposes CBS News’ Manipulative Tactics in Reporting

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem slammed CBS News after signing a document relating to the Biometric Identification Transnational Migration Alert Program in an official meeting held in Santiago on July 30, 2025. She accused the corporate television giant of misrepresenting her stances by resorting to manipulative editing. This left no choice for CBS News but to revise its then prevailing policy on conducting live interviews under public scrutiny.

Kristi Noem’s allegations seriously backfired on CBS News leading them to announce an unforeseen policy change. In an attempt to redeem their credibility, they decided to change their strategy of crafting narratives. CBS News released a statement explaining the new policy was implemented due to public backlash, which only confirmed their guilt.

The statement portrayed the decision as a pledge towards ‘greater transparency’. A phrase synonymous with honesty and accountability, but hardly ever seen in practice when it comes to the mainstream media. The phrase cleverly wrapped in the guise of good intentions is CBS’s ‘FACE THE NATION’ new interview modus operandi – live or live-to-tape interviews.

The extra measures were claimed to ensure audiences could view raw, unedited versions of the interviews. However, caution take a front seat when it comes to national security or legal constraints. But this would just allow them room to continue their practices under different labels.

The tensions between Secretary Noem and CBS News ignited when the latter cunningly took her statement out of context and misrepresented her views on the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Salvadoran citizen. The injustice was not left unnoticed as Ms. Noem, very professionally, called out CBS News.

Kristi Noem showed her discontent very publicly, sharing on her social media platforms how CBS news played a part in distorting the truth about the MS-13 gang member. This goes to show the depths of their misleading storytelling. It seems CBS continues to take advantage of high viewer count, presenting half-truths and incomplete facts.

Although CBS made every effort to sanitize the reality of Garcia’s heinous crimes, Ms. Noem made sure the viewers saw through the media fog. She made a fierce statement about not allowing such a dangerous individual to roam free in the country that every American loves and cherishes.

The media giant, in their efforts to create a narrative palatable to their viewer base, selectively edited the interview, conveniently omitting parts of Noem’s statement. The left-out segment revealed Garcia as a known human smuggler, an MS-13 gang member who was not only a domestic abuser but was also involved in exploiting minors.

Even his fellow criminals couldn’t stand his deplorable actions, indicating a level of perversion widely unaccepted. The extent of his malevolent deeds led Noem to emphasize that such individuals should never be incorporated into American society; a truth CBS failed to deliver.

While Noem focused on justice, the CBS continued its attempt to downplay Garcia’s grotesque crimes. Instead of rectifying the mistakes, CBS decided to combat Noem’s accusations tiptoeing around their misconduct by affirming that the full interview was available online. It would seem being caught red-handed didn’t lead to any real responsibility from the network.

CBS’s feeble pretext was quickly dismissed by critics arguing that their televised content far outweighs their online content, reaching a much broader audience. They pointed out the disparity of reach between their television and online platforms, bringing into light the further manipulation of the network.

The year 2024 saw a similar mishandling of truth by CBS News, when President Donald Trump was compelled to sue the network and its parent company, Paramount. They had edited a ’60 Minutes’ interview of then-Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, deliberately replacing her incoherent answer about Israel with a more coherent-sounding comment. Such biased handling of news is not unheard of when it comes to CBS.

The suit was lodged under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, suggesting that CBS violated fairness rules. This once more sheds light on the prevalent media malpractice of doctoring narratives to suit their often misleading storylines.

In July, CBS and Paramount decided to settle the case with President Trump, agreeing to pay $16 million which was designated for his future presidential library. This settlement stands as a powerful testament to the media’s gravitation towards manipulation and defamation, especially when it comes to Democratic leaders like Kamala Harris.

In the end, these incidents leave us wondering, to what lengths media houses like CBS may go to manipulate viewers’ perceptions. It’s a stark reminder that we must scrutinize each piece of information more carefully than ever.

These major red flags call for skepticism towards mainstream media outlets. There is a clear pattern of manipulated narratives, excessive omission, and defamation to serve biased agendas. It is a wake-up call for viewers to question the transparency and reliability of such media channels.
