Three Dead After Gunman Opens Fire At Idaho In-N-Out, Armed Citizen Tries To Stop Rampage

A horrifying shooting at a newly opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, left three people dead, including the suspected gunman, and several others wounded Saturday as terrified customers and bystanders scrambled for safety.

The violence erupted around 2 p.m. at the restaurant before spilling into the parking lot. Authorities now believe there was one primary shooter, despite early footage appearing to show two armed men. Witnesses said the attacker was carrying an AR-style rifle, while a second man seen firing a handgun was an armed citizen attempting to stop the rampage.

Dramatic cellphone footage captured the chaos outside the restaurant. One video showed the suspected gunman standing between parked vehicles before apparently firing into a Tesla. Other footage showed customers and bystanders running from the area as gunshots rang out.

Witness Lane Koehn said he saw the rifle-wielding attacker emerge from the drive-thru before the armed citizen began firing at him with a pistol. Koehn said the intervention may have distracted the shooter long enough for customers and employees to escape the crowded restaurant.

Two innocent victims were killed, including an In-N-Out employee, while seven people were reported wounded. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder said the slain employee had been caring for customers when her life was taken, condemning the attacker as a man who did not value the lives of others.

Authorities locked down nearby businesses and the Magic Valley Mall while roads around the scene were closed. St. Luke’s Magic Valley also asked people without emergencies to stay away as law enforcement and medical personnel responded to the shooting. Hundreds of witnesses were being interviewed as investigators worked to reconstruct the attack.

Police believe the gunman ultimately died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators have not publicly established a motive, and the FBI is assisting local authorities with the investigation. The In-N-Out location had opened only about a week before the deadly attack.
