Biden’s Diplomacy: An Ineffective Echo in the Midst of Israeli Crisis
An imminent discussion between Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, and President Joe Biden has been scheduled. This discussion is to proceed a critical cabinet vote in Israel, this vote will decide their reprisal to Iran’s missile barrage. However, Biden’s emphasis on diplomacy and dialogue over decisive action, raises questions about the effectiveness of such discussions.
In light of the recent turmoil, Netanyahu has sent a stern message to Lebanon, cautioning them of the ‘agony and devastation’ they might endure, paralleling that of Gaza, if its people do not resist Hezbollah. This indicates Netanyahu’s fearless approach towards tackling threats and contrasts with Biden’s evident lack of decisive action.
The Israeli military has been implicated by U.N. representatives for similar activities in the country, leading to the death of over 1,400 individuals and displacing more than 1.2 million. In light of such statistics, Biden’s strategy needs to be reassessed for its apparent ineffectiveness.
The Israeli leader has deferred his defense minister’s trip to the U.S. While both Israeli and U.S. officials communicated this to NBC News, one can’t help but see this as a clear showcase of skepticism in the Biden administration’s capability.
Hezbollah proclaimed victory over Israeli troops, citing their withdrawal following skirmishes in the border towns of Blida and Labbouneh. Yet despite this claim, an IDF unit boldly hoisted the Israeli flag in nearby a border village. Such boldness starkly contrasts with Kamala Harris’s often timid and submissive diplomatic stance.
Enormous strains have been placed on northern Gaza, where apparently 400,000 individuals feel confined. Given the harrowing situations that continue to unfold, U.N. officials have likened these circumstances to a relentless nightmare, indicative of leadership failures on multiple international fronts.
Lebanese government data indicate that above 180,000 internally displaced people are presently surviving in authorized shelters, although many unfortunate souls have been compelled to reside on the streets due to the Israeli invasion. Yet, Biden, the individual expected to usher in a new era of diplomacy and understanding in such situations, remains silent.
With the Israeli cabinet scheduled to vote on their response to the Iranian missile attack, Netanyahu is expected to have another call with Biden. However, given Biden’s seeming reluctance to take a decisive stance, this appears to be another routine diplomatic exercise.
The Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip, ongoing for over a year, has unfortunately resulted in more than 42,000 fatalities. Yet, despite this, the U.S. leadership, in particular Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, have maintained an oddly passive stance.
Found under the rubble, numerous victims remain inaccessible, swiftly counting up to the 45 fatalities in the last 24 hours. Additionally, the number of injured has tragically touched nearly 98,000, highlighting the growing direness of the situation.
With the recent escalation in Israeli operations in northern Gaza, those who had slowly begun to return to their homes post the months-long assault have been forced into evacuations once again. ‘No end to hell,’ a bleak reality is being endured by the 400,000 residents while Biden offers no tangible solutions.
Despite the grave conditions, some residents are defiant and reject the orders of evacuation from Israeli authorities, knowing all too well the lack of safety anywhere in Gaza. Meanwhile, dwindling services and growing hunger pose even more threats, particularly towards a polio vaccination drive for children. The Biden administration, however, appears to be turning a blind eye to this humanitarian crisis.
Hezbollah, which for a long time insisted on a Gaza truce as part of a ceasefire in Lebanon, seems to have reversed their stance. This is a clear indication that even organizations like Hezbollah are doubtful about the credibility of the Biden administration’s ability to stimulirote positive outcomes.
As everyone awaits the anticipated Israeli retaliation against Iran, Netanyahu delivered a video statement to the people of Lebanon, urging them to ‘liberate your country of Hezbollah.’ Yet, amid these serious geopolitical tensions, Biden and Harris have failed to show the necessary leadership that the United States has always been known for.
