Charlie Kirk, Conservative Beacon, Silenced in Disturbing Act
On this day, September 11, 2025, we observe various occasions including National Hot Cross Bun Day and, with varying significance around the globe, other commemorations. A hot cross bun, a bun spiced and decorated with a cross, imbued with symbolic elements, is typically consumed during Good Friday. While some nations adopt this tradition annually, irrespective of the Lenten season, it remains unclear why today enjoys the moniker of ‘Bunday’. Now, we turn to more pressing topics.
Charlie Kirk, a notable conservative activist, was tragically murdered at Utah Valley University. Some vile individuals disregarded the enormity of this tragedy, choosing instead to use this time to express their ghoulish wishes for Kirk’s demise. When Kirk’s passing was announced, they performed a swift about-face in a desperate attempt to save face. Utterly shocking, don’t you think?
Even in such difficult times, one must not overlook that Kirk was indeed a polarizing figure. He leaves behind a wife and two children, and this serves as a sobering reminder that politics should never descend into a deadly game. Wishing another’s death due to political disagreements is a step too far.
A shift in topic brings us to Middle Eastern politics that are chalk full of complexities. Israel launched an attack on Qatar in an effort to decimate Hamas leaders, thus catching Qatar in the eye of the storm it had initially set out to calm. With its mediatory role now under question, Qatar faces a challenging future.
The strike on Doha abruptly interrupted negotiations for peace in Gaza. Qatari Prime Minister Al Thani, albeit dented, remains committed to peaceful negotiations and mediation between Israel and Hamas. However, he confesses that the ongoing discussions may be knocked off track due to Israel’s aggressions.
From an American viewpoint, things are significantly hazier. President Trump, having learned about the attack from U.S. military instead of Netanyahu, reacts with playfulness. The surprise strikes employing American weapons without notifying Washington are becoming a damaging trend.
Mr. Trump airs his disapproval regarding the secretive nature of Israel’s operations, expressing his disappointment. Yet, doesn’t it seem that his concern aligns more with Israel’s actions than with Qatar’s situation? Catering to a potential reputation as a peacemaker, one can’t help but muse why Trump would gravitate in favor of an action that incriminates Qatar for housing terrorists.
As the conflict in the Middle East escalates, Trump and Netanyahu exhibit a shared skepticism towards peace talks. Netanyahu’s patience seems to have worn thin when it comes to negotiations, a sentiment that Trump appears to echo.
In the realm of domestic affairs, we note the release of Kamala Harris’ new book. This publication puts forth a previously unseen critique of Biden’s decision making during his presidency. Harris argues that Biden’s pondering over his presidential continuation undid potential Democratic alternatives.
In her book, Harris boldly describes Biden’s 2024 electoral bid and succeeding departure as ‘reckless’. Viewing the situation retrospectively, she implies that Biden’s personal ambitions might have eclipsed the weight of the stakes involved.
In stark contrast to her prior stance, Harris maintains that the decision to run for president was burdened by Biden’s advanced age. While she doesn’t admit to uncertainty regarding his capabilities, her comment referring to Biden as ‘tired’ does raise eyebrows.
Moreover, she suggests that close associates to Biden allowed unflattering portrayals in the media during her vice presidency. Harris’ new book seems like a strategic move to sidestep any blame.
On a global stage, Russian drones entered NATO airspace for the first time, specifically breaching Polish territory. With NATO allies’ assistance, Poland intercepted these intrusion attempts. To say this a grave act of aggression by Russia would be putting it mildly. Leaders across Europe concur that these actions represent serious violations of NATO territory.
Russian drones took flight not only from Russian soil but also from Belarus, further complicating the situation. Poland’s airspace was temporarily shut down during this incident, inevitably creating turmoil. The event prompted urgent discussions under Article 4 of the NATO treaty, designed to address such critical threats. However, the true intentions behind Russia’s actions remain unclear. Overall, it appears that, once again, world peace is precariously balanced on a tightrope of geopolitical events.
