Cyclist Sprints from Rome Police, Leads to Officer’s Fall

A cyclist was apprehended by the authorities in Rome following an abortive attempt by the police to halt him. This incident took place on the 20th day of April when the Rome Police Department officers sighted an individual, identified as Donald J. Rundell, cycling around the 200 block section of Henry Street. Responding to this, the officials pointed out that Mr. Rundell had committed several infractions against the established vehicle and traffic regulations of New York State. This spurred the officer present at the scene to proceed with a traffic halt operation.

Suddenly, the situation took a different turn when Rundell decidedly ignored the law enforcement official’s order and opted for escape. Shortly after this, he was later discovered by the same officer on Lawrence Street. This sudden appearance prompted a quick on-foot pursuit by the officer. As he reached out to detain Rundell by securing hold of his backpack, Rundell resisted ensuing a scuffle.

During the tussle, Rundell managed to wriggle out of the officer’s clutch, leading the law enforcement official to lose his balance and fall. Unfortunately, the immediate impact of this fall led the officer to sustain a blow to the head against the hard asphalt pavement. It wasn’t long before other members of the patrol unit successfully found and brought Rundell into control. He was apprehended around the 200 block area of the Erie Boulevard West.

Subsequent to his capture, Rundell found himself faced with multiple charges. The authorities brought a series of accusations against him including assault, impeding the governmental function, along with active resistance to his arrest. Adding to this, he was charged with criminal mischief and slapped with several traffic citations.

As a result of this incident, the officer who got injured during the pursuit required immediate medical attention. He was quickly transported to the local health center, Rome Health, to tend to his sustained injuries. It was there that they treated him for minor lacerations to his hands and face due to his unfortunate fall on the unforgiving pavement.

As it stands, the investigation surrounding this case is still active and well underway. Looking at the severity and circumstances of the incident, it is speculated that there may be a potential for levying additional charges against Rundell. However, the officials have not made a conclusive statement regarding this yet.
