‘Dilbert’ Creator Scott Adams Dies at 68, Leaves Behind Final Message of Faith and Gratitude

Scott Adams, the iconic creator of the workplace satire comic strip Dilbert, has died at the age of 68 following a battle with terminal prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. His passing was confirmed by his ex-wife, Shelly Miles, who shared his final written message on his “Real Coffee With Scott Adams” YouTube show.

“If you are reading this, things did not go well for me,” Adams wrote in the note, which was read aloud by Miles. Though long known as a skeptic, Adams made a powerful and unexpected confession in his final hours. “I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior and look forward to spending an eternity with Him,” he wrote. “I hope I’m still qualified for entry.”

In his parting message, Adams reflected on his life with peace and a sense of completion. “I had an amazing life. I gave it everything I had. If I got any benefits for my work, I’m asking that you pay it forward as best as you can. That’s the legacy I want: Be useful and please know I loved you all to the very end.”

Adams first announced his terminal diagnosis in May 2025, stating bluntly, “I have the same cancer that Joe Biden has.” He explained that the disease had already reached Stage 4 and spread to his bones. In recent days, his health declined rapidly, and he entered hospice care at his home in Northern California.

Adams launched Dilbert in 1989, capturing the absurdity and dysfunction of corporate life with brutal wit. Office workers around the globe saw their own realities reflected in the strip’s pointed humor, particularly its skewering of incompetent management.

“[I]n many cases the least competent, least smart people are promoted,” Adams once remarked. “Your heart surgeons and your computer programmers — your smart people — aren’t in management.”

Dilbert became a global phenomenon, syndicated in over 2,000 newspapers across 57 countries and translated into 19 languages. It spawned books, a television adaptation, and a wide range of merchandise.

In recent years, Adams faced fierce backlash after voicing right-leaning political opinions and making controversial statements about race. He became a target of cancel culture and was removed from countless newspapers and platforms. Despite that, he continued his daily livestreams and remained unapologetically outspoken until his death.

President Donald Trump, a longtime admirer, paid tribute to Adams shortly after the news broke. “Sadly, the Great Influencer, Scott Adams, has passed away,” Trump wrote. “He was a fantastic guy, who liked and respected me when it wasn’t fashionable to do so. He bravely fought a long battle against a terrible disease. My condolences go out to his family, and all of his many friends and listeners. He will be truly missed. God bless you Scott.”

Adams’ sharp pen, provocative insights, and final message of humility and faith mark the end of a singular American voice — one who dared to challenge the establishment with humor, intellect, and unflinching honesty.
