Former NBA Guard Patrick Beverley Arrested for Assault in Texas
Patrick Beverley, the former NBA veteran known for his gritty defensive play, was arrested this week in Fort Bend County, Texas, on a third-degree felony assault charge involving a family member, according to jail records and multiple reports.
The charge—assault of a family or household member by impeding breath or circulation—carries a potential sentence of two to ten years in prison under Texas law. TMZ was first to report the arrest, noting that Beverley posted a $40,000 bond and is expected to be released Friday night.
Authorities have not yet released details about the alleged incident, but jail records indicate the case involves a family member and includes serious allegations related to physical harm.
Beverley responded briefly on social media, posting: “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv.”
While Beverley has had disciplinary issues during his NBA career—including fines and suspensions for confrontations with fans and the media—he has not previously faced felony charges. His only known prior arrest was in 2015 for an unpaid toll after a traffic stop.
His attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, told TMZ that the case involves a misunderstanding involving Beverley’s younger sister.
“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister—a young lady, a minor,” Quinones-Hollins said. “Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”
Beverley, 37, last played in the NBA in 2024 before joining Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel’s top basketball league and the EuroCup. He parted ways with the team in February and did not complete the season.
Over his 12-year NBA career, Beverley made three NBA All-Defensive teams and built a reputation as one of the league’s fiercest perimeter defenders. He began his professional career overseas before making his NBA debut in 2012.
