A shocking event unfolded in the Purnea district of Bihar recently, when five people, all from one family, were believed to have been brutally murdered and their remains lit on fire due to allegations of them being involved in witchcraft. This information was provided by the local law enforcement.
The police have already made three arrests tied to these crimes, and are ferociously hunting for the remaining suspects. The authorities mentioned that the perpetrators had set fire to the victims’ bodies, most likely in a thicket.
The identification of the victims is still being confirmed by the police force. Experts in forensics, along with a canine unit, have been called to the location to support investigative proceedings and the senior officers in charge.
Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the victims, a family of five from the village of Tetma, were targeted and killed due to rumors of them being engaged in witchcraft practices. The indication is that after the murders, the suspects discarded their bodies in bushes and set them ablaze.
The heartbreaking incident is believed to have occurred on the previous Sunday night. It is speculated that the offenders are from the same family lineage as the victims.
In an unsettling twist to the narrative, local residents of the entire village seem to be implicated in participating in the crime. A report was received at 5 am from a 16-year old boy named Sonu who in a distressful tone stated that his family was targeted and killed by members of the Oraon community in the name of counteracting black magic and witchcraft.
Upon receiving the disturbing information, the police immediately ventured to the area and confirmed the recovery of the five burnt bodies. Three arrests have been made so far, while the identities of the remaining suspects remain unclear. Intense investigation is ongoing to uncover the rest.
In a stunning declaration, an opposition RJD leader vociferously argued that the law and order situation in the region is entirely dysfunctional. He went on to make a list of other similar acts of violence that have taken place lately in Bihar.

Citing another gruesome example from Bhojpur, where yet again three individuals got massacred, he emphasized the state’s spiraling crime rates. It’s evident that security is in a dire state in Bihar, with criminals on high alert, evoking fear among the citizens.
The opposition leader capped his statement by harshly criticizing the state’s chief minister, alleging him to be oblivious, oblivious to the rising tide of crime in the state.
