ICE Captures 206 Undocumented Criminals in Targeted NYC Operation
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has executed a collaborative effort with other law enforcement agencies, conducting an intensified immigration enforcement operation in New York City. This operation resulted in the capture of a Jamaican citizen, Derrick Roberts, age 60, and Dominican Republic citizen, Modesto Arias-Soto, aged 35, along with 204 other individuals deemed as undocumented immigrants.
The mission of the operation was geared towards pursuing and capturing ‘serious criminal alien offenders’, particularly those associated with transnational criminal syndicates known to operate within New York City and its surroundings. Additional specific attention was given to those individuals carrying serious criminal records or having connections with such unlawful organizations.
According to ICE, Derrick Alphonso Roberts is a non-legal resident from Jamaica with an extensive criminal history. His previous convictions include serious charges such as attempts to cause serious physical harm which resulted in manslaughter, illicit possession of controlled substances, solicitation, corruption of youth, possession of crime instruments, threats of terrorism, and engaging in criminal conspiracy.
Furthermore, Derrick’s list of convictions continues with him being charged for possessing cocaine with the sole intention to distribute it, carrying firearms during and relating to drug trafficking felonies, owning firearms as a convicted felon, and possession of firearms with deliberately altered serial numbers.
ICE’s documents also reveal Modesto Arias-Soto, another non-legal resident, hailing from the Dominican Republic, who, similar to Roberts, has a significant and serious criminal record. His past is marred by a conviction for conspiracy to distribute narcotics and an arrest record for attempts to tamper with public records.
The operation’s haul includes undocumented nationals from a variety of countries: Spain, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. The diversity of these individuals destigmatizes the misconception that all illegal aliens belong to any singular nationality or geographic region.
Impressively, more than half of the detained individuals, about 121 out of 206, hold significant criminal conviction records or are undergoing court proceedings for heinous crimes. These crimes range from murder, assault, arson, rape, sexual assault against minors, to drug trafficking, posting a serious threat to the well-being and safety of the general public.
The acting Director of ICE expressed his gratitude towards the hard work and valuable contributions made by ICE and their partner law enforcement agencies in making New York a safer place by apprehending these criminal offenders.
He further added that, apart from ICE officers and agents, multiple agencies worked in close collaboration, resulting in the successful arrest of hundreds of criminal offenders who posed a potential risk to the otherwise peace-loving streets of New York.
This intensive enforcement mission particularly targeted the city’s heavily crime-ridden neighborhoods, seeking out and arresting alien criminals who severely threatened the city’s peace and safety. The focus on these problematic areas led to a string of arrests which culminated in the successful capture of 206 criminal offenders in just one week.
The acting Director also lauded the dedication and hard work of every individual involved, commending them for effectively and efficiently contributing to the operation’s success. He highlighted their collective commitment which played an important role in achieving the target.
ICE has reiterated its dedication to its mission to prioritize public safety. To work towards this, they plan on continuing their efforts to identify, arrest, and remove illegal alien offenders from communities across the United States.
Through operations such as these, ICE aims to halt criminal activity by deterring those with ill-intentions and assisting in transforming communites vulnerable to criminal activities into safer spaces for residents.
This operation demonstrates ICE’s commitment to pursue and remove illegal residents harboring notorious criminal records, thereby ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the American public. They emphasize that this crucial mission is carried out irrespective of the offender’s nationality, focusing solely on their criminal records and the potential risk they pose.
Moving forward, ICE pledges an acclerated focus on similar operations spanning across various cities in the United States. These will aim to capture and process illegal aliens with criminal records, ensuring a safer environment for citizens and taking a strong stand against unlawful activities infiltrating American communities.
