Illinois Hangs in Balance as Pritzker’s Self-Serving Ambitions Resurface
It appears that JB Pritzker, currently presiding as the Governor of Illinois, is girding himself up for a third term bid. Information leaking out from those in proximity to Pritzker’s campaign insinuates his intention to launch the bid this Thursday. His political trajectory has been a subject of debate lately, particularly after he made it to the shortlist for the Vice President to Kamala Harris during her failed attempt to win the White House.
Despite the looming question of Harris’ questionable judgment in considering Pritzker for her Vice Presidential nominee, she finally made a somewhat wiser choice in Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz. Although Pritzker’s role was relegated to a mere surrogate for Harris’ ill-fated campaign, it did manage to draw some attention to him on a national level. This attention might, unfortunately, resurface during his campaign for governor.
Illinois Republicans, consistently the bearers of logic, have not hesitated in pointing out the obvious ulterior motive in Pritzker’s seemingly complacent bid for a third term. They perceive it as a mere stepping-stone to an ambitious presidential run. A notion, somewhat uncharacteristic though, even some Democrats have floated around. Clearly, a telling sign of their desperation to field any candidate for the top office.
Pritzker’s alleged national ambitions are by no means capped by his current gubernatorial ambitions. If he decides to, he could possibly announce a presidential run somewhere down the line. A fact that provides a potential glimpse into the Democrats’ strategy, one that is not free from risks and potential miscalculations.
However, before all these schemes and dreams materialize, there’s the small matter of an official announcement due this Thursday. It is reported that Chicago and Springfield will be the chosen locales for Pritzker to launch his campaign. But it’s anyone’s guess how these cities, already bearing the brunt of failed Democrat policies, will react to this ambition.
Naturally, one would expect Pritzker to announce his running mate sooner or later. But with the current Vice Governor, Juliana Stratton, veering towards a different path of running for U.S. Senate, that selection remains a mystery. Seemingly, a reflection of the indecisiveness and lack of unity within the Democratic camp.
Switch gears now to the other side of the political fence where several Republicans are rising to throw their hats into the gubernatorial race. DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick unofficially started the race earlier this year, showcasing the Republicans’ clarity in their aspirations.
He’s been joined by the likes of Phil Perez, a mechanic and Commissioner for Posen Park District, and businessman Joe Severino. Both of whom have not been shy about their competitive intentions, indicating a qualitative option for the voters who seek efficient governance.
In addition, Cook County GOP Chair, Aaron Del Mar, seems to be contemplating a run for the governorship as well. As it stands, the Republican line-up for the governor’s race is certainly setting it up for an intriguing contest against, quite possibly, an overambitious democratic candidate.
