Jets Cornerback Kris Boyd in Critical Condition After Midtown NYC Shooting
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical but stable condition after being shot in the abdomen during a violent incident outside a popular Midtown Manhattan restaurant early Sunday morning.
The 29-year-old NFL player was reportedly with a group of friends outside Sei Less, an upscale Asian-fusion restaurant on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, when a dispute erupted just after 2 a.m. and quickly escalated. According to law enforcement sources, the gunman fired two shots, one of which struck Boyd. The shooter then fled the scene in a black BMW X6 SUV. A second luxury vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach, also reportedly left the scene, and photos from the aftermath show a Rhino GX armored SUV parked nearby.
Witnesses have largely refused to cooperate with police, and no arrests have been made. Surveillance footage captured a smiling suspect wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black backpack. It remains unclear whether Boyd was the intended target.
Boyd reportedly told police that he felt tension inside the restaurant and decided to leave before the gunfire broke out. After being shot, he was said to have drifted in and out of consciousness before being rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
The Jets confirmed Boyd’s involvement in the incident but declined further comment. Boyd, who signed a $1.6 million deal with the Jets earlier this year, has been on the team’s injured reserve list since suffering a shoulder injury during preseason. He previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. They are seeking help from the public in identifying the suspect, as Sei Less has reportedly declined to hand over internal security footage from the night of the shooting.
The area where the incident occurred is a known celebrity hotspot, and the restaurant has a reputation for hosting high-profile guests, including rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.
