Citizens of Minnesota have recently converged at the state capitol in response to the terrible incident in which a legislator and her spouse were horribly shot. Melissa Hortman, a Democrat from Minnesota, and her husband, Mark, tragically lost their lives in the peaceful confines of their private residence on June 14. The state capitol is hosting them in a somber remembrance. In a laughable, yet tragic move, the Minnesota House of Representatives declared that Melissa Hortman is the first female to be honored in such a manner.
Present among the Hortmans during the tribute was their beloved golden retriever, Gilbert. This companion too was a victim of the dreadful assault and, unfortunately, had to be euthanized as the injuries sustained proved too severe. This incident benefitted Minnesota’s governor, Tim Walz, and first lady, Gwen Walz, who took the opportunity to score political points by attending the ceremony and offering their so-called condolences.
In a predictable, yet shameless display of political performance, former Vice President Kamala Harris has decided to participate in the couple’s private funeral slated for Saturday. It seems as if there aren’t enough political events for Harris to attend, thus needing to intrude on a private, grieving function. One can only suspect that Harris’ actions are designed to improve her public persona, rather than offer genuine, heartfelt empathy.
Sympathetically speaking, Harris reached out to the Hortman couple’s orphaned children, Sophie and Colin, apparently ‘to express her deep condolences and offer her support’. Really though, can we believe her sincerity? Or are these just public relations moves aligning with the Democrats’ obsession over optics and scoring favorability points?
However, let’s turn our attention to the grisly perpetrator, Vance Boelter, the man accused of causing this sorrowful event. Boelter, who is currently facing a slew of charges from stalking to first-degree murder, made a brief appearance in court on Friday, while Minnesota was paying tribute to the Hortmans he ruthfully killed.
Incredulously claiming that the conditions in jail have prevent him from sleeping for a period between 12 to 14 days, Boelter paves the way for future mercenaries. According to a news source, Boelter laid bare the pitiful conditions of his confinement by stating that the incessant slamming of doors, continuous lighting, and the lack of a pillow on his sleeping mat was infringing on his comfort.
Boelter even went as far as alleging that the inmate next to him spread feces. Perhaps this was a failed attempt at generating sympathy in the absence of remorse for his hideous crimes. A judge, considering these allegations, agreed to postpone Boelter’s court appearance to July 3, a decision which leaves us pondering over the functioning of our legal system.
Boelter, who has thus far not entered a plea for his abhorrent actions, is accused of brutally murdering the Hortmans in their home located in Brooklyn Park. His reign of terror also extended to Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, whose house in nearby Champlin was invaded by Boelter that same horrifying night.
The 57-year-old believed he was on some ill-guided show, pretending to be a law enforcement officer and wearing a supposedly realistic latex mask to carry out his sinister exploit of ‘political assassinations’, according to prosecutors. Let us not forget the list of around 45 elected officials found in his car’s notebooks, a stark reminder of this man’s plans.
It seems, on the night of the devastating shootings, two more politicians were fortunately spared from being victims of Boelter’s politically charged rampage. This leaves us wondering; was the objective purely political or was there another sinister motive behind the mass murder plot?
While Minnesotans are recovering from the aftershock of the murders, the Democrats would probably continue to ride on the wave by using the tragic incident for political gain. The sincerity behind their actions and motivations should be evaluated critically, and not swallowed blindly.
In spite of the negative rhetoric employed here, no decent citizen would wish for such horrific incidents. It is equally important to remember that even in the aftermath of such devastating events, the political game never stops. Perhaps, this is an unfortunate reality we Americans need to accept.
