Meta Unveils New Features for Quest VR Headsets

In a recent announcement, Meta has introduced a series of fresh offerings for its Quest virtual reality headset. Unveiled during the Meta Connect 2025 seminar this week, the social tech giant briefed attendees on enhancements for existing spectacles as well as their future initiatives relative to the Quest product line.

Meta’s announcement centered around the unveiling of three novel features tailored for their virtual reality headsets. Among these three, two are accessible on all models, while one of the features is exclusively designed for the recent Quest models.

An upcoming feature is set to facilitate the process of streaming videos on the Quest headset, a step forward towards simplifying the user’s entertainment experience. Named Horizon TV, this innovative hub will serve as the collective platform for ease of access to several well-known streaming providers.

Horizon TV, the new hub, will notably host relevant content from multiple popular streaming platforms. Among its collaborations include industry bigwigs such as Netflix, Prime Video, ESPN, Peacock, Hulu, and Disney+, broadening the spectrum of offerings available to the user.

User experience on Horizon TV promises to be immersive, thanks to its support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. This integration ensures high-definition audio and video, providing an elevated experience and superior quality entertainment to the users of the headset.

Additionally, Meta has revealed about the development and upcoming inclusion of a generative AI editor for the Horizon Worlds sandbox. This intelligent tool promises to simplify content creation, aiding and assisting creators in bringing their vision to life.

The generative AI editor is peculiar due to its integration of voice prompts. Creators can leverage this feature, giving verbal directions to create or modify their immersive worlds. Whether it’s altering an artificial intelligence-fueled Non-Player Character (NPC) or designing a new environment, the tool offers extensive flexibility.

A captivating feature announced by Meta is the Hyperspace Capture. This innovative tool utilizes the cameras equipped on the headset to capture images of the user’s surroundings. The functionality then interprets these photos to create a digital duplicate.

The Hyperspace Capture feature, although not universally accessible, is exclusive to specific Quest models only. The technology behind it allows for the creation of a virtual replica of an individual’s room within a matter of a few minutes.

One crucial aspect to consider while using the Hyperspace Capture tool is that the resulting image created by the feature is set. The system analyzes the photos taken by the headset’s camera, and the generated virtual twin is a static version of the user’s environment.

In summary, Meta, in its continuous pursuit of innovation, has launched new features to boost user experience and explore untapped potentials of virtual reality. The recent Meta Connect 2025 event became the stage for unveiling functionalities aimed at further enriching the capabilities of the Quest headsets.

With technological advancements like Horizon TV, streaming content becomes a more pleasurable and convenient experience. Coupled with support from Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, consumers can anticipate a highly defined audio-visual experience on this platform.

The progress made by Meta in interactive content creation with the development of the AI-driven editor for Horizon Worlds playground, or navigation of the virtual world using verbal instructions, promises to redefine the dynamics of the VR world. The Hyperspace Capture feature opens further opportunities for personalization and immersion, making it a notable development in the field.

While some features are designed to be available for all devices, Meta also showcased its commitment to continuously add value to the newer models of Quest. This continuation of progress and exploration in virtual reality technologies solidifies Meta’s position as a frontrunner in shaping the future of the VR world.
