Pokémon Legends: Z-A is Out Now on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

The next evolution in the Pokémon franchise has arrived. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is officially out now for both the Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2, marking Game Freak’s latest entry in the iconic RPG series.

Set in the heart of the Kalos Region’s Lumiose City, Z-A builds on the open-world foundation laid by Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Players can freely explore the city, seamlessly transition between real-time movement and traditional turn-based battles, and catch wild Pokémon without leaving combat. The familiar action-RPG hybrid system returns, enhanced with a few key upgrades.

One of the biggest additions is the Z-A Royale, a free-for-all trainer showdown where players battle to reach Rank A. The winner is promised the chance to have their wish granted, adding high stakes and a competitive edge to the adventure.

Another twist comes in the form of Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon, dangerous foes that demand strategy and strong teams to defeat. Online multiplayer also returns with Link Battles, letting you test your skills against trainers around the world.

The game is currently sitting at an 80 Metascore on Metacritic (Switch 2 version), based on 49 reviews—on par with the reception of Pokémon Sword and Shield.

For a glimpse of the game in action, the official launch trailer is now live. Whether you’re diving in on the original Switch or the upgraded Switch 2, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is ready to take trainers back to Kalos in a whole new way.
