President Declares ‘Unrest’ in Capital, Pledges Tightened Security

The president voiced his concern on TruthSocial regarding the state of the nation’s capital, labeling it as ‘extremely unsafe.’ This statement comes on the heels of his initiative to bolster federal law enforcement deployment in Washington D.C., an initiative that just entered its second day and shows signs of intensifying. Early this Saturday, through his dedicated social networking channel, TruthSocial, the president announced a forthcoming press conference designed to present a strategy intended to drastically reduce violent lawlessness within the city. Asserting, ‘Our capital has come to be counted among the most dangerous cities globally, but it is soon going to be among the safest,’ the president expressed his unwavering optimism in his TruthSocial updates.

The social networking announcement revealed that the scheduled press briefing will be conducted at the White House on the following Monday. However, other specifics about the meeting, including its exact time, and whether the president would be addressing it personally, were left unsaid. This development is the most recent in an ongoing narrative that, over the past few days, has seen the president express a growing determination to rein in lawlessness within the capital.

This escalation followed an incident where a Department of Government Efficiency official reported an attack by teenagers during an attempted carjacking. During a press briefing on the subsequent Wednesday, the president indicated that should the administrative authorities within D.C. fail to rectify the situation, he would be compelled to enforce federal jurisdiction over the city.

True to his word, late on the following Thursday, a new directive was issued, commencing at the start of Friday morning. With a mission to maintain peace and order, federal entities such as the U.S. Park Police, ATF Washington, and Amtrak Police, commenced patrol operations on D.C. streets early Friday.

However, the president’s recent assertion about the city’s violent crime rate does raise some questions. Data from the D.C. Police counters this claim, revealing a 26% drop in violent crimes against the corresponding period last year. Furthermore, the statistics depict an overall crime decrease by 7%, while murder rates have slipped by 12%.

In fact, the present trends indicate a continuation of the pattern observed in 2024 when a substantial reduction in violent crime—declining by 35% from the previous year—was recorded.
