Public Commemoration Set for Atlanta Rapper Kenneth Bailey

A commemoration event is scheduled for Sunday for the revered Atlanta-based rapper, colloquially known as Young Scooter. The memorial ceremony for the artist, officially christened Kenneth Bailey, has been slated for the day following the visitation. Kenneth Bailey tragically passed away on the day that marked his 39th year in this world.

The opportunity for the public to pay tribute to Bailey will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The dedicated venue is the Donald Trimble Mortuary, situated at 1876 Second Ave. in Decatur. Subsequently, the funeral ceremony is set to commence at 1 p.m. on Monday at the renowned St. Philip A.M.E. Church, which stands at 240 Candler Road in Atlanta.

The unfortunate passing of Bailey occurred on the 28th of March, under circumstances that involved a tragic fall while he tried to evade police officers acting on a 911 distress call, as indicated by investigating officials. The fall resulted in him cutting his right thigh on a wooden fence, leading to a significant loss of blood, which was corroborated by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. The classification of Bailey’s death has thus been identified as an accidental event.

A distinct development in the investigation occurred on Tuesday when the purported 911 dialer, a 31-year-old individual named Demetria Spence, was apprehended and indicted with the charge of broadcasting a false public crisis alert, an offense classified as a felony. Following her arrest, Spence was assigned a bail amount set to $7,500. As of Friday morning, she was still behind bars at the Fulton jail.

Investigation authorities have kept the exact details around the motive of the 911 call under wraps. There have been no revelations about the nature or the details of the association between Spence and Bailey. It continues to be a mystery that investigators are dedicated to unlocking.

Born and raised in the heart of Atlanta’s Kirkwood district, Kenneth Bailey carved a unique path for himself in the music industry. He was amongst the earliest artists to ink a deal with the acclaimed Freebandz label, associated with the well-known artist, Future.

Emerging as a formidable force in the industry during the 2010s, he quickly climbed his way to popularity through the mixtape scene. One of his most recognized contributions to the scene comes from his 2013 project titled ‘Street Lottery,’ a compilation that easily found favor among music enthusiasts.

Bailey’s final official contribution to his illustrious musical legacy was a rerelease in 2024. This was a revisit of his 2015 compilation ‘Fast Lane Juugin.’ The project ended up being the final endowment to his musical journey, marking an unexpected and untimely full stop to his career.
