Serial Carjacker Kevin Dubuisson Detained Following Violent Felony Spree

A 28-year-old man identified as Kevin Dubuisson has been detained indefinitely, pending trial, following a chaotic slew of incidents in Queens that resulted in multiple violent felonies, including an NYPD officer being injured via a friendly-fire incident. The injuries sustained during his egregious acts extended beyond the officer, as an elderly 87-year-old woman suffered brain trauma as a result of his actions. The string of felonies perpetrated by Dubuisson, a serial carjacker, largely revolved around his attempts to forcibly commandeer several vehicles, coupled with outright threats to take a life. As a result of his actions, the law enforcement officer suffered both gunshot injuries and a fractured leg, while the elderly victim incurred severe injuries—both outlined in newly revealed court documents.

During the incident, the elder woman was being assisted by her daughter when Dubuisson, operating a stolen SUV, allegedly propelled the vehicle in reverse into them at significant speed. The rough impact resulted in both women being toppled to the ground. The elder woman’s injuries included substantial blood loss, a fractured wrist, a substantial wound on her scalp, and brain trauma as outlined in the criminal complaint. The daughter, although not severely injured, did sustain multiple injuries.

Facing multiple bouts of incarceration, with a 2023 attempted robbery incident standing out, and having been arrested at least a dozen times prior, Dubuisson demonstrated callous indifference towards the injuries inflicted on the octogenarian during subsequent interrogations. After being hauled into court contentiously, he was presented with a list of fourteen charges including assault, robbery, grand theft, intimidating behavior, and assaulting a law enforcement officer.

According to the criminal complaint, the chain of destructive events orchestrated by Dubuisson began early in the day around 8:40 am. The scene was set at a local Mobil’s gas station on Parsons Boulevard, where he targeted a white Hyundai Santa Fe left running by its owner. The criminal complaint states that he attempted to infiltrate the vehicle at this point.

When he tried commandeering the vehicle, a gas station attendant quickly intervened. Despite his effort, Dubuisson allegedly held his ground, declaring defiantly that he had no intention of relinquishing the car. A scuffle ensued between the two, whereby the attendant was successful in wresting the car keys from Dubuisson’s grasp.

Upon his failed attempt, the serial offender allegedly withdrew from the situation with an expletive-laden outburst, in the meanwhile indicating the position of a supposed firearm by lifting his shirt and holding his waistband. Releasing his grip from the conflict, the criminal complaint alleges he then directed his attention to a pedestrian crossing the street.

Irked by the recent failure, it is believed Dubuisson turned his attention to a woman on the sidewalk, threatening her with violence while again insinuating possession of a firearm. After a mere ten minutes interval, he allegedly was scouring the area once more, in the hunt for an additional car to hijack, according to the prosecution.

He eventually crossed paths with an Uber driver in his Toyota Highlander, located just two blocks from the Mobil station at 22nd Road, near the Whitestone Expressway service road. Brandishing a crowbar, Dubuisson had knocked on the window of the 52-year-old’s SUV before demanding possession of the vehicle.

In response, the driver left the vehicle and tried to escape, taking the keyfob with him. However, Dubuisson decided to chase him, eventually managed to pummel him to the ground, and forcefully wrested the keys from his hand, as stated in the complaint.

Equipped with the stolen Toyota Highlander, Dubuisson is alleged to have recklessly driven it backward into the elderly woman before making a hasty escape from the scene, according to court documents. Police responding to the Uber driver’s emergency call arrived in droves, surrounding Dubuisson, who was still in the Highlander.

Officer Corey Fisher, a 12-year veteran of the Queens North Warrants Squad, was injured during the standoff. Triggered by friendly fire, he was shot twice, resulting in a fractured leg, according to the criminal complaint. Officer Fisher was immediately transported to the hospital for emergency surgery.

Post his detainment, Dubuisson provided a rather remorseless account of his actions to the interrogating authorities. He stated, ‘The second man disrespected me. I asked him for money and he ignored me. Hence, I threatened him. I asked him for his car. The guy was panicking.’, inadvertently acknowledging the threat over the Uber driver’s vehicle.

Dubuisson’s trail of crime and chaos initiated a day prior to these events, with suspicions around him stealing two other vehicles. One of these allegedly stolen vehicles was reportedly wrecked into a construction site. On the same day, he was apprehended and released after receiving a citation for illegally entering a subway station via jumping the turnstile.

His reckless actions triggered a dangerous situation, culminating in an unfortunate friendly fire incident where a responding NYC Police Detective was shot by mistake. Were he to be found guilty of all charges against him, Dubuisson could be looking at a prison sentence stretching over three decades.

In summary, authorities are currently holding Kevin Dubuisson without bail due to the severity of his crimes and the potential threat that he poses to the community. Dubuisson has not yet entered a plea, but the litany of accusations leveled against him outlines a scenario of violent behavior and disregard for public safety, leading to multiple car thefts, assaults, threats, and an unfortunate incident of friendly fire causing injury to a police officer.
