‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Movie Trailer Blasts Off with Star-Studded Cast and Cosmic Adventure

Mario is heading back to theaters—this time, straight into the stars. Nintendo and Illumination have officially revealed the first full trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the highly anticipated follow-up to the record-breaking Super Mario Bros. Movie from 2023.

After raking in nearly $1.5 billion worldwide, it was only a matter of time before Nintendo expanded its cinematic universe. The trailer confirms what fans had long suspected: the sequel dives headfirst into the interstellar setting of the beloved Super Mario Galaxy games, introducing new characters, new worlds, and a bigger scope than ever before.

Returning Voices and New Faces

Chris Pratt reprises his role as Mario, joined once again by Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). Directors Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath are also back in the saddle, bringing continuity and familiarity to the series.

New to the cast are Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, the mysterious guardian of the cosmos, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., the film’s primary new antagonist. With these additions, the stakes—and the universe—have officially grown larger.

Galactic Inspirations and Family-Friendly Fun

According to Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, the Galaxy games are the central influence behind the new film. However, he hints that longtime fans can expect surprises from across Mario’s vast gaming legacy. The animation style and tone remain light, colorful, and heavily aimed at younger audiences—just as the first film was, and just as wildly successful.

Mario Galaxy Movie

Despite some critics (and nostalgic adults) finding the original film a bit too kid-focused, there’s no denying the formula worked. This sequel appears to follow suit, leaning into what made the first one a global hit while layering on more action, more characters, and the cosmic charm of one of Mario’s most acclaimed game worlds.

Release Date

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters on April 3, 2026. With a soaring trailer and a cast full of stars, it looks like Mario’s next cinematic adventure is ready for liftoff.
