Vincent Battiloro ID’d as Suspect in Horrific Targeted Hit-and-Run Murders of NJ Teen Girls
The teen driver accused of mowing down two 17-year-old girls in a deadly New Jersey hit-and-run has been identified as 17-year-old Vincent Battiloro of Garwood, according to neighbors and municipal court records obtained by NJ.com.
Battiloro was hit with at least 15 tickets tied to Monday night’s crash, including citations for leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, speeding, and operating a vehicle without a license, registration or insurance card. He turns 18 early next month, records show.
Union County prosecutors have charged the suspect — whose name has not been formally released because he is still a juvenile — with two counts of first-degree murder. Under New Jersey law, a prosecutor can ask to try a minor as an adult in homicide cases, but a judge must approve the transfer.
Neighbors told The Post on Thursday that Battiloro was behind the wheel of the car that killed high school students Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas as they rode an electric bike. Loved ones of the victims have alleged the suspect was stalking Maria for months and “plotting the attack,” calling him a “coward of a man” in a statement Wednesday night.
The Post knocked on Battiloro’s family’s door Thursday but received no response. A phone call to the house was not returned. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Thursday morning that the suspect is in custody.
Both victims were remembered as bright teenagers whose lives were just beginning. Maria, born in Greece but raised in New Jersey, dreamed of a career in cosmetology. Isabella was known for her “voice of an angel” and loved singing and performing, according to online obituaries.
