Rubio Threatens To Snatch Visas From ‘Pro-Hamas Thugs’ At Columbia University

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is taking a hardline stance against foreign nationals who participated in radical anti-Israel demonstrations at Columbia University, warning that visa revocations are on the table for those who broke the law or supported extremist causes.

Following the takeover of Columbia’s Butler Library by masked protesters—many of whom declared it a “liberated zone” and adorned the space with anti-Israel banners—Rubio confirmed the State Department is actively reviewing the immigration status of those involved. Over 80 individuals were arrested during the incident, which disrupted final exams and prompted national outrage.

“We are reviewing the visa status of the trespassers and vandals who took over Columbia University’s library,” Rubio said. “Pro-Hamas thugs are no longer welcome in our great nation.”

The message was clear: the Trump administration will not allow foreign nationals to abuse their privileges in the United States while engaging in acts that glorify terror, sow antisemitism, or disrupt civil order under the pretense of student activism.

This move follows a wider crackdown on pro-Hamas agitation on college campuses, especially when foreign nationals are involved. Earlier this year, Palestinian graduate student Mahmoud Khalil was detained after authorities determined his activism posed a threat to U.S. foreign policy interests. Though Khalil held lawful permanent resident status, the administration cited the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 to justify his detention.

While critics have raised concerns over civil liberties and academic freedom, Rubio and other administration officials argue the line has been crossed. “There’s a difference between peaceful protest and providing cover for terrorist sympathizers,” one senior official said. “When foreign students desecrate American institutions and align with terror-linked rhetoric, they should expect consequences.”

The Trump administration’s policy signals a clear shift: campus activism that veers into antisemitic incitement or criminal disruption will not be tolerated—especially from those who are guests in the country. And with tensions continuing to escalate on elite campuses like Columbia, it’s evident that the administration is prepared to act decisively to restore order and uphold American values.
