Democrats’ Reality Check: Biden’s Declining Competence Exposed

In light of the heated discussions around Joe Biden’s questionable fitness for a second term in office, it seems that the year 2022 has been particularly ill-omened for the Democrats. Even with fervent arguments from Biden loyalists claiming the vitality of his incumbency, the truth hiding in plain sight cannot be ignored. There’s been a notable attempt by many Democrats to shroud Biden’s observable decline, despite it being a poorly concealed truth. Regrettably, the Democrats’ tendency to delude themselves appears to overshadow the reality they seem reluctant to face, clearly fueled by political tribalism.

In the book ‘Original Sin’ by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, they describe the Democrats’ continuous confirmation of Biden’s theoretical competence as a finely crafted hoax against the American public. Allegedly, the book uncovers the ‘cover-up’ that the inner circle of Biden’s team has carried out to mask his evident deterioration. Much of the discomfort and concern here lie not only with their attempts to deceive the public but more worryingly, their simultaneous self-deception. The phrase ‘original sin’ is quite apt; it seems to symbolize the Democrats’ propensity for collective denial, stagnation, and an irrational avoidance of risks.

It is undoubtedly true that the Democratic Party has, in large part, painted themselves into a corner by standing behind a leader whose cognitive abilities are openly questioned. The misdirection and unfolding scenario have led to rising dissatisfaction within party ranks. The timing of ‘Original Sin’ and its revelations about Biden’s dwindling fitness one can argue, presents a much-needed reckoning for the party in the face of impending political crisis fronted by none other than former President Donald Trump.

In the midst of this chaos, ‘Original Sin’ brazenly highlights Biden’s inadequacies, leading many Democrats to express their angst. It seems the unsettling revelations in the book have overshadowed their primary focus on Trump’s known failings. However, perhaps Tapper and Thompson are inadvertently doing a favor to the Democratic Party, spotlighting the urgency to correct course before it’s too late. Besides, the painful lessons learnt from earlier in the Biden realm can feed a purgative process to foster growth.

Democrats have placed their bets heavily on Biden’s cognitive health, often going to extremes to assure voters and secure their trust. As the tides turn, the party seeks to regain the lost credibility, underlining the need to own up to their flawed judgments. As politics often demonstrates, the most effective way to regain public trust is by acknowledging one’s shortcomings, and it’s high time Democrats took a page from that book.

Tapper and Thompson’s ‘Original Sin’ could serve as an unexpected lifeline for Democrats, underlining the need for introspection. It is more beneficial to confront and address this issue now than allowing it to corrode the party’s foundation deeper. Only then can they hope to salvage their dwindling reputation ahead of the next elections, understand the egregious errors of their strategy, and hope to find a way forward.

Most conveniently for some Democrats, Biden and his immediate inner circle, aka ‘the Politburo’- Mike Donilon, Steve Ricchetti and Bruce Reed, are prime candidates for finger-pointing. These individuals certainly did their share in tightening the reins around information regarding Biden’s health. Tapper and Thompson’s book does an exemplary job at shedding light on the calculated effort to limit access to Biden and skillfully downplaying his condition.

The alleged degree of control wielded by Biden’s team behind-the-scenes is as atrocious as it is enlightening. Citing an anonymous senior White House aide who left his position over discomfort with Biden’s potential re-election, the book sheds light on the extensive efforts that went into covering up Biden’s decline. They were ‘shielding him from his own staff,’ further echoing the disconcerting elements of a more sinister agenda within the Biden administration.

As ‘Original Sin’ continues to gain momentum, it’s disturbing to observe partisan politics disregarding the well-being of the very country the Democrats claim to fight for. As is – the party seems to be in a state of self-denial, sailing on a ship with a gaping hole in its hull. The message of excessive risk aversion and groupthink pushed by party leaders stands apparent in their recklessness.

One can’t help but admire the sheer audacity of data and evidence presented by Tapper and Thompson in ‘Original Sin,’ especially if they intended it as a wakeup call for the Democratic Party. Rather than serving as an indictment, the document can guide the party towards recognizing their deficiencies and taking remedial action.

There is a clear opportunity for the Democratic Party to detour from their current misguided path, rethink their strategy, and salvage whatever credibility they can from this debacle. However, that can only happen if they genuinely introspect on their past decisions and recognize Biden’s evident corrosion as a startling reality.

In the end, the cacophony surrounding Biden and his fitness for presidency currently outweighs any other crisis facing the Democrats. Amid these challenges, party leaders must choose between upholding an aging leader’s illusion of competency or preparing for a long-overdue reality check.

As it stands, the Democrats must face the uncomfortable truth about Biden’s aging and deteriorating state for their own as well as the nation’s prospects. Tapper and Thompson have boldy thrown a torch into the darkness, illuminating an uncomfortable reality. The question that remains is whether Democrats will seize this moment to evolve, or continue to shimmy around the cracks in their facade.

All in all, with ‘Original Sin’ underlining the truth behind Biden’s declining health, the Democrats are on the verge of an unexpected crisis. And yet, the book could also be a tool of transformation and course correction, depending on how well they choose to learn from their past mistakes.
