Biden’s Failing Memory: A Shielded Cover-up by Democrats?
Several left-leaning cohorts have written off the public release of a 2023 recorded interview with then-President Joe Biden, led by former special counsel Robert Hur. The liberals classified it as a mere diversion from Donald Trump’s time in office, deliberately shifting focus onto the recent downgrade of the U.S. government’s credit outlook by Moody’s Ratings. Moreover, they intentionally chose to ignore Biden’s age, which caused apprehension throughout his tenure, and notably resurfaced in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election.
Significant doubt over Biden’s cognitive sharpness came to the forefront after his wavering debate performance against the then-Republican nominee Donald Trump. Pursuant to this shaky performance, Biden chose to withdraw from the election after approximately one month. It was in the midst of this environment that Hur led his interview with Biden in 2023.
Connected to the findings of secretive documentation from the Obama era at Biden’s Delaware residence and his employed Washington, D.C. office, Hur conducted the interview with Biden. Subsequently, Hur described Biden as a ‘sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory’, further fuelling the suspicions about Biden’s deteriorating mental state.
The latest release was taken by some Republicans as an additional proof of what they suggest is a calculated ‘cover-up’ and scandal privatizing Biden’s mental regression. The renowned Axios culminated the week by releasing the audio excerpts from Biden’s discussion with Hur. During this conversation, Biden was observed to exhibit momentary confusion and uncertainty about personal details.
Signs of his inadvertent ignorance arose concerning the date of his son Beau’s tragic demise and the real-time events during Trump’s 2016 election timeline. A transcription of this interview had been made public in March 2024, yet the audio version had remained undisclosed until that point. As of the following Saturday, more than five hours worth of audio content had been made available.
Biden retorted to Hur’s narrative of him as an older man with memory failure by proclaiming his ability to govern. His response was ‘I’m well-meaning, I’m elderly, and I completely understand what I’m doing. I have executed my duties as a president and got the country back on the right track. I don’t require his endorsement—’
The released version of the interview has been met with negative critique from a host of Republicans, including GOP Representative James Comer from Kentucky. In a pointed remark, Comer stated, ‘The Democrats kept assuring us that the Biden-Hur audio tapes were not of significance. They claimed former Special Counsel Robert Hur was meddling with electoral proceedings.’
Continuing his criticism, Comer added: ‘Democrats insisted Biden was ‘sharp.’ Concealing the mental deterioration of Biden is nothing short of a scandal of monumental magnitude.’ The audio’s release was met with counter-criticism from Democrats, who condemned media platforms for broadcasting the tapes. Their belief was that these actions perpetuated a specific political narrative while undermining Biden’s sorrow over his son Beau’s death.
Due to its significant fiscal depletion, Moody’s Ratings downgraded the rating of the U.S from the apex grade, Aaa, down to Aa1. As per Moody’s Ratings, whilst the U.S still obtains key advantages like an active economy and the universal supremacy of the U.S. dollar, its financial outlook has faced a substantial downgrade.
Trump’s tax abatements from 2017 have been warned by Moody’s Ratings to pose a probable extension, leading to an added $4 trillion debt increase in the federal primary deficit in the coming decade. This proposal is now a key focus point for the Congress, helmed by the Republicans.
However, chronic political standstill continues to be a significant hurdle towards fiscal restructuring, with Republicans rallying against increasing taxes and Democrats persistently opposing reductions in spending. This leaves little scope for cross-party collaboration solutions.
Although Democrats maintain that these pieces of information are mere distractions brushed under a rug by Republicans, the facts remain concrete. Biden’s inability to remember significant details about his life and the apparent discomfort on display during such interviews speak volumes. The question remains about whether the public is being shown the real picture or just another facade being ironed out by the Democrats.
