Major Crimes Explode in AOC’s District—Outpacing NYC Average by More Than Double

Crime is spiraling out of control in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) district, with major offenses skyrocketing by 70% since she took office—more than double the overall crime increase across New York City during the same period.

Newly released NYPD data paints a grim picture for residents of New York’s 14th Congressional District, which covers parts of the Bronx and Queens. Precincts in AOC’s district have seen some of the steepest spikes in major crimes anywhere in the city.

The 110th Precinct in Queens, which includes Elmhurst and parts of Roosevelt Avenue, has experienced a jaw-dropping 105% surge in major crimes. Just north, the 115th Precinct—covering Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst—saw an 85% increase. Other precincts under her jurisdiction have also reported well above-average crime hikes, signaling a growing crisis in neighborhoods that AOC was elected to represent.

Longtime residents are fed up and pointing fingers squarely at Ocasio-Cortez’s policies and priorities. Many say her fixation on national politics and radical causes has come at the expense of the people who put her in office.

“She’s never here,” said Guadalupe Alvarez, a lifelong Elmhurst resident. “She cares more about social media and national headlines than she does about our streets. We’re scared to walk at night, and she’s nowhere to be found.”

Ramses Frias, a local City Council candidate, echoed those frustrations, calling on city and federal leaders to take public safety seriously. “There’s real fear in our neighborhoods,” he said. “What we need is leadership rooted in this community—not someone chasing the next viral moment.”

Many critics have also linked the crime surge to Ocasio-Cortez’s vocal support for defunding the police. Her push to slash NYPD budgets and reduce law enforcement presence, they argue, has backfired—leading to officer shortages, recruitment struggles, and a weakened police response just as violent crime surges.

Despite growing concerns and repeated media requests, Ocasio-Cortez’s office has remained silent on the latest crime data.

As New Yorkers deal with the consequences of radical anti-police rhetoric, the numbers speak for themselves: communities under AOC’s leadership are becoming less safe, and her constituents are demanding answers.
