Hailing from Egypt, Soliman was staying in the United States illegally at the time of the attack, highlighting the failures of the administration’s immigration policies. He had entered America in August 2022 with a visa set to expire in February 2023, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman. This individual applied for asylum during his stay, but it appears no reasonable checks were made about his intentions.
Despite his questionable status, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services saw fit to provide him with a work permit in March 2023. This dubious decision comes as a clear indication of the agency’s operational failures under this administration, showcasing a lack of effective monitoring and control of immigration processes.
Soliman, a 46-year-old man, has now been charged with numerous severe crimes, including murder – unsettling evidence of the deadly risks overlooked during lax vetting processes. Further charges include crimes against vulnerable and elderly adults, the use of incendiary devices in the attack, and assault.
The injuries inflicted by Soliman are serious and far-reaching. It’s reported that eight adults were hurt during the rampage, which took place at an open-air mall in Boulder, as per the FBI’s report. The victims of his alleged assault spanned a wide age range, with the eldest being 88 years old.
Reports show that the attack had political motivations, with Soliman seen loudly proclaiming ‘Free Palestine’. He apparently utilized an improvised flamethrower to launch his despicable attack against his unaware victims, as per the FBI’s public statement.
Police reports indicate that the victims, whose injuries included severe burns, found themselves hospitalized as a result of this deplorable act. Individuals present at the event were taking part in the ‘Run for Their Lives’ protest. According to the Anti-Defamation League, this weekly occurrence typically sees members of the local Jewish community rallying support for hostages held captive by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
It is particularly heartbreaking to note the harrowing history of some of the victims. One of them, as disclosed by Leo Terrell, a leading DOJ official in the Civil Rights Division, was a Holocaust survivor. This elderly Holocaust survivor, having previously escaped the ravages of one of history’s most horrific atrocities, endured yet another episode of terror stateside, perpetrated by Soliman. Authorities have decided to hold Soliman in Boulder County Jail. Multiple grievous charges, including murder, crimes against at-risk and elderly adults, use of incendiary devices and assault have been laid against him.
