President Donald Trump has been officially nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize following his successful negotiation of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran—an agreement that halted what could have become a catastrophic regional war.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) submitted the nomination on Tuesday, crediting Trump’s leadership for brokering the ceasefire and launching decisive action to cripple Iran’s nuclear program.

In his letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Carter praised Trump for “preventing the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet” and “forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible.”

On Monday, Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, effectively ending the 12-day conflict. Though tensions briefly flared Tuesday morning, with both sides accusing each other of violations, Trump stepped in once again—this time publicly urging restraint.

“I think they both violated it,” Trump told reporters. “I’m not sure they did it intentionally. They couldn’t rein people back. I don’t like the fact that Israel went out this morning at all, and I’m going to see if I can stop it.”

The president made clear he wasn’t taking sides. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing,” he said outside the White House.

Trump’s warnings were heard. By Tuesday afternoon, both Israel and Iran recommitted to the ceasefire, with each side signaling they would only act if provoked again.

In his nomination letter, Rep. Carter said Trump’s intervention in one of the world’s most volatile regions “exemplifies the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.”

“President Trump demonstrated both courage and clarity,” Carter wrote. “He offered the world a rare glimpse of hope. For these reasons, I respectfully submit this nomination for Donald J. Trump, 47th President of the United States, to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Trump is currently en route to The Hague for the NATO summit, where he plans to press U.S. allies on increasing their defense spending—a push that has already seen success with most NATO countries agreeing to Trump’s 5% target.
