Michigan Electoral Fraud: A Biden Victory Built on Falsehoods?
The outrageous case of 15 individuals trying to fraudulently hand Michigan’s 2020 electoral votes to President Donald Trump is finally receiving its due process. Despite an overwhelming and painfully clear defeat in the state by Joe Biden, the accused attempted a desperate and unlawful maneuver to overturn the results, keen to turn a blind eye to the democratic process.
The Michigan Attorney General’s office accurately identified this shrouded deception and filed a series of felony charges related to election fraud and forgery against the individuals. Expressing their sham attempt as an insidious scheme to deprive Michigan voters of their rightful choice, the office didn’t hold back. This connotes the utmost disregard for the rule of law and sheer disrespect for the democratic principles on which this nation was built.
The proceedings are expected to unfold in a trial come September. While a group of Michigan Republicans faces the heat in related charges, it mirrors a disconcerting reflection of some partisan individuals’ blatant attempts to manipulate the outcome of the elections. Notably, the accused include figures of high stature within the Republican Party, casting a troubling shadow over its ethics.
Judge Kristen Simmons of Ingham County’s 54A District Court is administrating the proceedings, which center around the defendants’ audacious move of signing and dispatching fraudulent documents to mirror as if Trump had won Michigan’s electoral votes. This, after around 154,000 voters in Michigan had favored Biden over Trump in 2020.
The alleged act of treachery wasn’t spontaneous but rather meticulously planned. On December 14, 2020, when Democratic electors were busily casting Michigan’s electoral votes for Biden, a group of Republicans tried to steal the limelight, showing up at the Capitol to cast pro-Trump votes. Fortunately, Michigan State Police intercepted their farce, enforcing the law with the respect it deserves.
While their attempt to barge into the Capitol ended in disappointment, the group didn’t end their sham. The document that they signed, outlandishly claiming Trump’s election victory, was later transmitted to Congress and the National Archives. This occurred despite the acknowledged fact that Michigan’s electoral votes had already been pronounced for Biden.
The investigation into these severe allegations began in July 2023, with the first shots fired in the form of charges against these individuals. The journey to justice appeared long, with final hearings running until October 2024. An original group of 16 were charged, but in a strategic exchange, charges against one individual were dropped for him to testify as a government witness.
The defendants, incredulously enough, position themselves as innocent. Pleading not guilty, they hide behind a flimsy defense, claiming they were merely following directions from Trump’s campaign attorneys.
They desperately argue that the standby electoral votes for Trump were crafted to serve as a safety mechanism. A thin veil of deceit designed to cater to the delusional chance of Michigan’s election results flipping from Biden to Trump.
A defense attorney representing one of the defendants blindly argues that his client’s participation in the act doesn’t showcase criminal intent. Outrageously overlooking the disregard the defendants showed in respecting the choices of millions of Michigan voters.
The charges are grim and fitting to the accused’s alleged actions, reflecting the severity of their attempted fraud. They face the possibility of up to 14 years in prison for forgery-related charges, and the election law violations carry a maximum of five years in prison each.
Against the backdrop of Biden’s decisive win in Michigan and the country as a whole in 2020, baseless claims continue to swirl about the integrity of the election results. It’s a saddening depiction of the lengths some individuals go to, willingly supporting false narratives and seeking to undermine the sanctity of our democratic elections.
Despite repeated audits and investigations pointing to no evidence of widespread voter fraud in 2020, the insistence on proclaiming the election as stolen is more an expression of denial than reality. Such deluded undertones are a slap to the face of every citizen who exercised their democratic right in a fair and just election.
Undermining the public’s faith in the integrity of our elections, the actions of these false electors were not only reckless, but it also demonstrated a gross violation of Michigan’s election administration laws.
