Speaker Johnson Hails ‘Big, Beautiful’ Win For American Families
House Speaker Mike Johnson delivered a celebratory message to the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) Summit, praising the passage of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” as a generational victory for American families, religious freedom, and the pro-life cause. The Louisiana Republican, a former ADF attorney himself, described the bill as a culmination of decades of conservative advocacy — and a major milestone under President Donald Trump’s leadership.
In a pre-recorded address, Johnson thanked ADF for its enduring influence on his legal and political journey and credited the organization’s mission with helping lay the foundation for the sweeping legislative win.
“I do miss my days as an allied attorney and staff attorney at ADF,” Johnson said. “It was a formative time that prepared me for the crazy job I’m doing right now. And my hat’s off to all of you for being engaged in this fight. There’s never been a more important time for this work.”
Johnson touted the bill as a victory on multiple conservative fronts — border security, national defense, tax relief, and most significantly, family policy.
“We increased the child tax credit. We expanded paid family leave. We created investment accounts for newborns. And we lowered the tax burden on families so the American Dream — starting a family, owning a home — is within reach again,” Johnson explained.
But the most thunderous applause from the pro-life crowd came when Johnson highlighted one of the bill’s most controversial and consequential provisions: the end of taxpayer funding for abortion providers.
“We finally passed legislation to ensure that the forced funding of abortion is no longer a thing in America,” Johnson declared. “No longer will our tax dollars fund evil organizations explicitly focused on killing unborn babies. We defunded that.”
ADF President and CEO Kristen Waggoner praised Johnson’s leadership in a statement, pointing to the synergy between the legislative victory and ADF’s recent Supreme Court win in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, which upheld South Carolina’s right to block Medicaid funds from going to abortion providers.
“Speaker Johnson celebrated the meaningful advancements in pro-life legislation, and we’re grateful at ADF for our recent major victory at the Supreme Court,” Waggoner said. “Combined, wins like Medina and the pro-life provisions in the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ encourage us that the tide is turning back towards life.”
While a federal judge has temporarily paused the ban on Planned Parenthood funding pending litigation, Johnson and pro-life advocates remain confident that the law will be upheld — especially with the judiciary increasingly shaped by Trump-appointed judges.
For Johnson, this legislative moment is personal. As someone who has long worked at the intersection of law, faith, and policy, he framed the bill not just as a political success, but as a moral one.
“This is a monumental win for American families and includes many of the pro-family victories that we’ve all been fighting to achieve for many decades,” he said. “And with President Trump leading the charge, we’re just getting started.”
