Ethnic Proscription in American Immigration Policies?

Accusations of ethnic proscription have been leveled against the United States, stating that the crackdown on immigrants, especially under the Trump administration, appears to target more than just criminal elements. Most of these undocumented immigrants are not engaged in harmful criminal activities but are being penalized for being in the country without legal paperwork, technically a civil offense. Justifying these activities under the banner of ‘upholding the law’ seems duplicitous, especially when one considers the conduct of the administration itself. A more pragmatic solution would be to offer these law-abiding, undocumented immigrants a legitimate route to acquire citizenship, considering their valuable contributions to the nation far outweigh their ‘offenses’.

The operations conducted by ICE, aimed at undocumented immigrants, are spiraling towards extinction rather than resolving the issue. Such an approach appears regressive, causing more harm than good and leading the nation down a corrosive path. One cannot ignore the undercurrent of racial bias driving this unjust policy. Labeling this policy for what it truly encompasses can only be described as ethnic proscription, a very dark path to tread on.

Amid these tensions, local parks have become the hub of a pleasant surprise, with grazing goats finding a new home. These friendly herbivores paid a visit, numbering over six hundred and varying greatly in feature and size. Their instinctual faith in their shepherd ensures they never wander off too far, even if they chance to break free from their confines. The hope is to see this herd return next year, perhaps assuming the role of natural lawnmowers in the open fields.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has extended beyond acceptable time frames. Echoing the concerns expressed by Therese Mughannam-Walrath regarding the escalating loss of innocent lives in the Middle East, over 60,000 Palestinian deaths have been reported since October 7, 2023. Disturbingly, these victims were not the results of direct military engagement.

The casualties involving women and children comprise over half the total fatalities, the majority of whom were targeted in peaceful civilian settings. One cannot help but question the humanity of such actions and implore everyone to voice their protest against our implicit participation in the deaths of Palestinian civilians. This approach cannot be condoned and must be stopped immediately.

During a recent visit to Hiroshima, made all the more poignant due to a visit to the Hiroshima Peace Museum, a discomforting realization was reinforced. The embodiment of the destruction that befell over 140,000 lives during the atomic bombing is a bleak reminder of the horrors such weapons can unleash. This tragic event impelled the conception of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, aimed at thwarting nations from obtaining nuclear arms.

Despite these stringent regulations, Iran’s blatant disregard and pursuit of nuclear weapons continues unabated. A stark example of this intent is Iran’s expressed interest in annihilating Israel, whom they refer to derogatorily as the ‘little Satan’, and the United States, known to them as the ‘big Satan’. The gravity of the situation cannot be understated and a collective call to action is urgent to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear armaments.
