Elon Musk Donated $5M To Trump-Aligned Super PAC One Month After Public Feud With President
Despite a high-profile clash with President Donald Trump earlier this summer, tech billionaire Elon Musk donated $5 million to the Trump-aligned MAGA Inc. super PAC on June 27, according to newly released campaign finance records. The donation came just one month after Musk publicly criticized the president’s signature “Big, Beautiful Bill” and accused Trump of covering up Epstein-related files—an accusation Musk later retracted.
The $5 million donation to MAGA Inc. was part of a broader political push by Musk, who also gave $5 million each to the Senate Leadership Fund and the Congressional Leadership Fund that same day, signaling continued support for GOP control of Congress heading into the 2026 midterms.
The sudden financial show of support from Musk comes after weeks of escalating tensions between the two men. In late May, Musk—who served as a senior adviser in Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency—slammed the administration’s flagship fiscal bill for not going far enough in cutting government waste. Trump responded in characteristically blunt fashion, accusing Musk of having “just gone CRAZY” and threatening to reevaluate federal contracts with Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk then took the feud to another level by suggesting, without evidence, that Trump appeared in unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files. He later deleted the post and apologized, admitting that his criticism had “gone too far.” Still, just a day after donating to Trump’s PAC, Musk resumed jabbing the administration—this time for what he called a “bloated” tax bill.
The complicated relationship between Musk and Trump took another turn when Musk announced the formation of a potential new political movement, the “America Party,” in early July. Musk teased the idea after posting a poll on X (formerly Twitter), asking users if they wanted “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system.” While the move sparked speculation that Musk could undercut Republicans in future elections, the initiative appears to have stalled. As of now, no official filings or campaign activity have followed the announcement.
Despite the noise, Musk’s financial support of MAGA Inc. and GOP leadership PACs underscores his ongoing alignment with conservative political priorities—particularly when it comes to deregulation, energy independence, and combatting the bureaucratic state.
Musk is reported to have spent more than $250 million backing Trump and other Republicans during the 2024 cycle, though he stated earlier this year he would be “spending a lot less” on politics moving forward.
Trump, for his part, has kept the door open for reconciliation but hasn’t held back in his criticism. “He even wants to start a Third Political Party,” Trump posted in early July. “The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS.”
Still, Trump noted he had “no hard feelings” toward Musk, despite calling him a “TRAIN WRECK.”
The uneasy alliance between Trump and Musk may continue to wobble, but if campaign money talks, the tech mogul is still putting his chips on a Republican future—even if he’s occasionally flipping the table along the way.
