Trump To Meet With ‘Communist’ Zohran Mamdani At The White House

Far-left New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is headed to Washington for a Friday meeting with President Donald Trump, marking a dramatic shift in tone after months of escalating rhetoric between the two political opposites.

Mamdani, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist and avowed critic of Trump, will visit the White House for what both sides describe as a formal discussion on public safety and the economy. The meeting comes just weeks after Mamdani’s stunning upset victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo, which Trump strongly opposed.

“Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!”

Mamdani, 34, confirmed the meeting, stating that it was routine and in line with precedent for incoming big-city mayors. “As is customary for an incoming mayoral administration, the Mayor-elect plans to meet with the President in Washington to discuss public safety, economic security and the affordability agenda that over one million New Yorkers voted for just two weeks ago.”

The meeting will come less than a month after Mamdani declared in his Election Night victory speech that he would be “Trump-proofing” New York, pledging to reject cooperation with ICE and painting Trump as a “despot.”

“If we embrace this brave new course, rather than fleeing from it, we can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves,” Mamdani said on Election Night. “After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump, how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”

The rhetoric has not gone unnoticed by the president, who previously warned that New York City could lose most of its federal funding under a Mamdani administration. In a Truth Social post before the election, Trump wrote: “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!”

Still, Trump appeared to leave the door open for diplomacy after Mamdani’s win. “We want to see everything work out well for New York,” the president said Sunday.

Mamdani has vowed to implement an aggressive progressive agenda in the city, including launching city-run grocery stores, pushing to raise the minimum wage to $30 an hour by 2030, and expanding public housing. Trump has repeatedly argued that Mamdani’s policies would bankrupt the city and drive residents away in droves.

The upcoming meeting is likely to draw massive political attention and could signal whether the two leaders can find common ground — or if it will set the stage for a prolonged political standoff between the Trump administration and America’s largest city.
