Trump Drops Hint Of Russia-Ukraine Peace: ‘Something Good Just May Be Happening’

President Donald Trump on Monday signaled that a breakthrough in the Russia-Ukraine peace process might be close, hinting at progress behind the scenes while cautioning Americans not to celebrate prematurely.

“Is it really possible that big progress is being made in Peace Talks between Russia and Ukraine??? Don’t believe it until you see it, but something good just may be happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The post came as Secretary of State Marco Rubio held what he described as the most productive round of peace talks yet, meeting with Ukrainian negotiators in Geneva over the weekend. Rubio said the talks focused on refining the White House-backed 28-point framework first introduced in January and suggested that the U.S. and Ukraine are now closer than ever to agreement on key terms.

“We’re working through making some changes, some adjustments, in the hopes of further narrowing the differences,” Rubio told reporters Sunday. “It was the best meeting and day we’ve had so far in this entire process.”

While Ukraine appears increasingly open to the U.S.-mediated plan, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s position remains unclear. Rubio acknowledged that the Kremlin’s stance would ultimately determine the viability of any agreement.

“There’s the Russian side of the equation,” Rubio said. “But again, we think we have some pretty substantial insights over the last nine months into some of the things that are really important to them.”

Trump and Putin last met at a surprise summit in Alaska over the summer, fueling speculation that the groundwork for a peace deal may have already been laid between the two leaders.

Some Republican lawmakers, however, remain wary. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted the rumored concessions in the proposed deal, warning that rewarding aggression could undermine U.S. credibility.

“Those who think pressuring the victim and appeasing the aggressor will bring peace are kidding themselves,” McConnell wrote on X. “How does limiting Ukraine’s defenses against future aggression increase the likelihood of enduring peace?”

Sen. Lindsey Graham echoed the concerns, calling for congressional review of any final deal.

“The proposed Russia-Ukraine peace deal provides an opportunity to end the war honorably and justly,” Graham said. “Congress should also have the ability to review a plan that includes any future security guarantees.”

The White House has not confirmed whether a final peace agreement is imminent, but Trump’s Monday message suggests he believes momentum is building behind the scenes — possibly enough to bring the years-long conflict to a close.
