Trump Backs Vance As VP Leads High-Stakes Iran Peace Talks

President Donald Trump said Vice President JD Vance “has nothing to prove” as he heads overseas to lead negotiations aimed at ending the Iran conflict.

Vance is set to serve as the administration’s top envoy in Pakistan, where talks are expected to focus on turning a fragile ceasefire into a long-term agreement addressing key issues like Iran’s nuclear program and regional stability.

Trump praised his vice president’s performance, dismissing the idea that the assignment is a test of his leadership or political future. He emphasized confidence in Vance’s ability to navigate complex negotiations with Iranian officials.

The U.S. delegation is expected to include Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Iran is anticipated to be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Among the primary U.S. objectives are securing an end to uranium enrichment, reopening the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping, and limiting Iran’s ability to rebuild its military capabilities.

Vance signaled cautious optimism ahead of the talks, saying the United States is willing to negotiate in good faith but warning that attempts to mislead or stall the process would be met with resistance.

The negotiations come amid ongoing tensions despite a temporary ceasefire, with disputes continuing over conditions such as regional conflicts and the release of Iranian assets.

Trump has indicated that U.S. forces remain prepared for renewed military action if diplomacy fails, underscoring the high stakes surrounding the talks.

With both sides still divided on key issues, the upcoming negotiations are expected to play a critical role in determining whether the conflict moves toward resolution or escalates once again.
