Iran Launches Missile Barrage At Israel As Fears Grow Of Wider Regional War

Iran launched multiple waves of missile attacks against Israel on Sunday, raising fears that months of fragile ceasefire efforts could collapse and trigger a broader Middle East conflict.

The barrage came just hours after Israeli forces struck targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs that officials said were linked to the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terror group.

According to Israeli authorities, roughly 10 missiles were fired in four separate waves toward northern Israel in less than an hour.

“Tonight, the aggressors received their response,” Iranian Supreme Leader adviser Mohsen Rezaei declared on social media following the attack.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later claimed responsibility for at least one ballistic missile strike targeting the Ramat David air base in northern Israel, according to Iranian state media reports.

Israeli officials reported no immediate fatalities or major damage from the missile barrage, though the government moved quickly to prepare for the possibility of additional attacks. Schools across parts of northern Israel were ordered closed Monday as military officials assessed the situation.

Israeli military spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said Iran had committed a “grave mistake” and confirmed that military planners were preparing additional options regarding operations in Lebanon.

Defrin did not announce any immediate retaliatory strikes against Iran itself.

President Trump urged both sides to avoid further escalation.

Speaking to The New York Post on Sunday, Trump said he was unhappy with Israel’s weekend strike in Lebanon, despite Israeli officials arguing it was a response to ongoing Hezbollah attacks against Israeli communities near the border.

“What I would suggest to Iran: You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough. Get back to the table and make a deal,” Trump said.

The president also revealed he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and encouraged restraint.

According to Axios, Trump said he was urging Netanyahu not to launch a direct retaliatory strike against Iran in response to Sunday’s missile attacks.

Iranian military officials defended their actions by accusing both Israel and the United States of violating ceasefire arrangements reached earlier this year.

“Our acceptance of the ceasefire on April 8 was conditional on a ceasefire on all fronts,” Iran’s military said in a statement carried by regime media outlets. “America and Israel did not adhere to their commitment.”

The statement pointed specifically to Israeli military operations in Lebanon and alleged attacks on Iranian maritime assets.

The conflict in Lebanon continues to complicate broader diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a lasting agreement between Israel and Iran.

While Israeli and Lebanese officials reached a ceasefire arrangement last week, Hezbollah rejected the agreement and has continued military operations.

Pakistan has attempted to revive negotiations between Israel and Iran, but progress has been limited. Iranian officials have repeatedly insisted that any broader agreement must include an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

Netanyahu has maintained that Israel will continue its campaign until Hezbollah no longer poses a threat to Israeli citizens.

Before Israel’s latest strikes in Beirut, Iranian officials warned that any significant escalation in Lebanon could trigger a wider regional conflict.

The U.S. State Department reiterated its support for ongoing diplomatic efforts and said negotiations between Israel and Lebanon remain scheduled to continue later this month.

The department also reaffirmed support for Israel’s right to defend itself while backing Lebanon’s internationally recognized government.

The latest exchange marks one of the most serious flare-ups since ceasefire efforts began earlier this year and raises fresh questions about whether ongoing negotiations can survive mounting tensions across multiple fronts in the region.
