Fetterman Says Abandoning Israel Would Force Him To Leave Democratic Party

Sen. John Fetterman revealed that the Democratic Party abandoning its support for Israel would be the ultimate dealbreaker that could force him to leave the party.

The Pennsylvania Democrat said he remains committed to his party despite repeatedly clashing with its progressive wing on Israel, immigration, government shutdowns and President Donald Trump.

Fetterman said he still supports traditional Democratic priorities, including abortion rights, labor unions, marijuana legalization and government assistance programs. However, he made clear that his support for Israel is not negotiable.

“If the Democratic Party turns against Israel, then I’m done,” Fetterman said during an interview. “That would be the dealbreaker.”

His warning comes as a growing number of Democrats have demanded restrictions on American military aid to Israel and accused the country of going too far in its military operations.

Fetterman has consistently rejected those arguments and defended Israel’s right to destroy terrorist organizations threatening its citizens. He has also criticized fellow Democrats who refused to support weapons sales or defensive assistance for the longtime American ally.

The senator argued that supporting Israel should not be viewed as a Republican or Democratic position. He described the alliance as a matter of American national security and said Israel remains one of the United States’ most important partners.

Fetterman has faced increasing hostility from progressives over his positions. Some Pennsylvania Democrats are already discussing possible primary challenges when he seeks reelection in 2028.

Despite the pressure, Fetterman said he will not change his views to satisfy party activists. He insisted he would rather leave the Democratic Party than remain in one that completely turns its back on Israel.

Fetterman stopped short of saying he currently plans to become a Republican or independent. He has previously said he would make a poor Republican because he continues voting with Democrats on most domestic issues.

Still, his latest comments represent his clearest warning yet that the Democratic Party’s growing anti-Israel movement could eventually drive him out.
