Top Energy Trader Calls Trump’s Venezuela Oil Deal a ‘Generational Win’ for American Gas Prices

President Donald Trump’s massive new oil agreement with Venezuela could deliver years of lower energy prices for American families, according to veteran oil trader Phil Flynn, who is calling the agreement a “generational win” for the United States.

Flynn praised the deal after Trump announced that the United States, working through partnerships with private companies, had secured majority control over more than 65 billion barrels of proven Venezuelan oil reserves.

The veteran energy analyst said the enormous amount of accessible oil could provide Americans with a long-term source of relatively inexpensive energy while reducing concerns about future supply shortages.

Flynn also argued that the agreement could be transformative for Venezuela. American companies possess the technology, expertise and capital needed to develop oil fields that Venezuela has struggled to fully utilize after years of economic decline and deteriorating energy infrastructure.

Trump announced the agreement Friday, describing it as the “biggest oil deal in world history.” He said the arrangement was negotiated at his direction by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth alongside Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez.

The president said the United States secured majority control of the massive reserves without requiring American taxpayers to foot the bill. Private businesses are expected to play a central role in financing and developing the oil resources.

Trump says the agreement more than doubles American oil reserves while dramatically increasing the amount of petroleum potentially available to the United States. He predicts the additional supply will eventually translate into substantially lower gasoline prices for American drivers.

Flynn believes the long-term implications could be enormous. With concerns lingering over the amount of oil previously withdrawn from America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, he suggested Venezuela could effectively provide the United States with access to an enormous new reserve in the Western Hemisphere.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also celebrated the agreement, portraying it as an example of Trump’s America First foreign policy delivering tangible economic benefits at home.

Rubio argues that gaining access to massive quantities of relatively inexpensive oil close to the United States could strengthen American energy security while reducing dependence on supplies from more volatile parts of the world.

However, Flynn cautioned Americans against expecting gasoline prices to suddenly collapse overnight. Bringing enormous new oil reserves into production requires infrastructure, investment and time, meaning motorists should not expect an immediate 10-cent-per-gallon decline simply because the agreement has been announced.

The psychological impact on global energy markets could arrive sooner. Flynn said the agreement may place downward pressure on oil prices by reducing fears about future supply disruptions and signaling that some of the geopolitical conflicts responsible for keeping energy prices elevated could be easing.

The deal also comes after a dramatic transformation in Venezuela’s political relationship with Washington. The United States launched an operation in January that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro, followed by a transition in power and the eventual negotiations that produced the new oil agreement.

Venezuela possesses some of the largest proven petroleum reserves on Earth, but years of socialist policies, corruption, underinvestment and deteriorating infrastructure severely damaged its ability to fully exploit those resources.

American involvement could dramatically change that equation. With U.S. technology and private investment helping develop Venezuelan oil fields, supporters believe production could eventually increase significantly while simultaneously creating a massive new source of energy for American consumers.

For Flynn, the significance goes far beyond the price motorists will see at their local gas station next week. He believes Trump has secured an energy advantage that could benefit Americans for decades, calling the agreement nothing less than a “generational win.”
