AOC Facing Backlash for Public Endorsement for Biden’s Re-Election

LISTEN HERE:

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, has taken considerable flak from her core constituents following her official endorsement of President Joe Biden’s pursuit of a second term in office in 2024. This has incited discontent even amongst her staunchest followers. Her backing of Biden over other potential contenders is seen as a departure from her typical stance.

During an appearance on progressive-leaning media outlet ‘Pod Save America’, she clarified her allegiance to the incumbent president for the 2024 elections, in response to a question posed by former Obama staffer, Jon Favreau. The host asked, ‘Will you be standing with Biden in the reelection?’ to which she provided an affirmative response.

‘Given the options before us, my answer is yes,’ AOC stated. Her support for Biden, who many feel performed admirably in light of the challenges presented, is seen by some as a pragmatic move, demonstrating an understanding of political realities at play.

Reflecting on Biden’s tenure, she noted, ‘There have been highs and lows, as with any president. I believe some endeavors expressed significant strength, such as his immediate actions with the American Rescue Plan’. Ocasio-Cortez fondly remembered the initiative, an early highlight of Biden’s presidency.

She went on to applaud the Inflation Reduction Act, which she described as an ‘enormous stride for our climate change agenda’. This move, she suggests, showcases the proactive attitude of the Biden administration towards combating climate change – a key issue for her and her supporters.

The Daily Mail reported significant backlash from AOC’s supporters after she openly endorsed Biden for reelection. Biden’s already dwindling popularity was further challenged following her endorsement, thereby constricting his path to securing his second term even more.

Biden’s decreasing approval rating in the aftermath of his decision to run for re-election was highlighted in a fresh survey conducted by DailyMail.com alongside J.L. Partners. The results revealed that 71% of participants, a group inclusive of 49% Democrats, felt Biden has exceeded the desired age to execute presidential duties.

The poll further shed light on a disconcerting fact that more than half of American respondents believe their standing has been negatively impacted since President Biden assumed office. These statistics provide an interesting perspective on the public sentiment towards the Biden administration.

James Johnson, co-founder of J.L. Partners, echoed these sentiments in a conversation with the DailyMail. ‘There’s a rare consensus among American voters: Biden’s age poses a serious question about his presidential capacity’, he remarked.

‘The confirmation comes from all demographic sections, irrespective of age, ethnicity or political affiliation. What’s alarming for the incumbent president is those feeling the hurt most from Biden’s policies are key demographics in any election – the Independents and those aged between 45-64’, Johnson further expanded while discussing the poll results.

While President Biden successfully circumvented the age debates during his 2020 campaign, it is poised to be a significant factor influencing voters’ decisions in the upcoming electoral cycle, according to Johnson. This raises questions about Biden’s ability to retain support from key demographics, particularly older and independent voters.

The political discourse is increasingly being shaped by concerns about whether the president, due to his advancing age, will be able to complete his existing term or potentially another term, should he emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

Tudor Dixon, the Republican nominee who was narrowly defeated by Democratic incumbent Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan in the recent past, expressed similar thoughts during her radio interview on ‘Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla’. She claimed that fellow party members appear to be biding their time, anticipating the conclusion of Biden’s political career.

‘Their behavior mirrors that of waiting opportunists. I really believe that. The other day, I mentioned how they seem to be closing ranks around him, as though they expect his tenure to end soon.’, she remarked during the interview.

‘The end of what, though? Is it just the end of his presidency or something more profound? I can’t claim to know their exact thoughts, but the current scenario gives the impression that we are being misled’, Dixon concluded, leaving the audience with some thought-provoking insights.
