AOC Declares “We’re Not the Crazy Ones” at Rally for NYC Socialist Candidate Zohran Mamdani

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) defended her radical brand of socialism on Sunday by telling a Queens rally crowd that it’s not her or her allies who are out of touch — it’s their critics.

“We must remember in a time such as this, we are not the crazy ones, New York City,” AOC said from the stage at Forest Hills Stadium. “They want us to think we are crazy.” She was speaking at a rally titled “New York is Not for Sale” in support of Zohran Mamdani, the socialist city councilman and mayoral frontrunner who has made headlines for his anti-Israel stances and radical policy goals.

AOC’s speech quickly turned into a greatest-hits tour of far-left demands, calling for more government spending on housing, universal health care, and what she described as “the care of our people” — while attacking U.S. support for Israel and accusing America of helping “flatten Palestinians and oppressed people abroad.”

The Socialist Wing Goes All In

Sunday’s rally was a full display of the Democratic Party’s hard-left flank. Governor Kathy Hochul — who has endorsed Mamdani despite his open hostility toward Israel — was greeted with chants of “Tax the rich!” when she took the stage. Rather than pushing back, Hochul smiled and told the crowd, “I hear you, I love to see this energy and this passion.”

Mamdani, soaking in the crowd’s approval, responded, “Hell, yeah. Obviously.” He later thundered, “Our work has only just begun. On 4 November we set ourselves free.”

The Real “Crazy” Is in the Numbers

Ocasio-Cortez’s platform, now mirrored by Mamdani, includes:

  • A 70% marginal tax rate on income over $10 million

  • Free public college and full cancellation of federal student loan debt

  • The $93 trillion Green New Deal

  • Medicare for All — estimated to cost between $30 and $40 trillion over a decade

  • Sweeping rent control measures that economists say would cripple housing development

Republicans wasted no time firing back. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA), responding to AOC’s recent CNN town hall appearance with Bernie Sanders, said, “With every ounce of Christian character that I can muster… bless her heart.”

“This would be comical if it were not so dangerous,” Johnson continued. “You’re looking at the two leaders of the modern Democratic Party… These guys are full Marxists. You hear how vapid their ideology is; what empty suits they are.”

The Bigger Picture

With Mamdani leading New York City’s mayoral race and Ocasio-Cortez doubling down on socialist talking points, the Democratic Party continues its transformation — one that increasingly sidelines moderates in favor of radical activists pushing trillion-dollar agendas.

And if voters disagree? AOC says they’re the crazy ones.
