At Least 60 Dead After Paramilitary RSF Strikes Civilian Shelter in Sudan’s Al-Fashir

A brutal wave of drone and artillery attacks by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed at least 60 civilians in the besieged city of Al-Fashir, according to local activist groups. The RSF, locked in a violent struggle with Sudan’s army for control of Darfur, reportedly targeted a civilian shelter Friday night and again early Saturday.

The Al-Fashir Resistance Committees reported that the shelter was struck twice by drones and eight times by artillery, leaving civilians trapped or burned alive in what they described as “cold-blooded” attacks. Among the dead are women, children, and elderly residents.

“Bodies remain under the rubble,” the group said in a statement, adding that hospitals, mosques, and other displacement centers have also been repeatedly hit.

The RSF has been attempting to capture Al-Fashir, the military’s final stronghold in the Darfur region. The siege has triggered a worsening humanitarian crisis, with food and medical access collapsing and residents forced to dig bunkers beneath their homes for shelter.

Locals say the city is now losing roughly 30 people each day to violence, starvation, and disease. As of Saturday, many remain unaccounted for, with several structures still smoldering and inaccessible. Activists say hundreds more could be dead.
