At Least One Dead, Several Injured After Shooting And Fire At Michigan LDS Church

At least one person has been killed and nine others wounded after a gunman stormed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, police said Saturday.

Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye said the attacker drove his vehicle through the church’s front doors before opening fire inside the building. A gun battle with officers followed, leaving the suspect dead at the scene.

The status of the injured victims was not immediately available. Renye said investigators believe the shooter also set the blaze that engulfed parts of the church.

President Donald Trump said in a statement that he had been briefed on the tragedy and urged Americans to “pray for the victims and their families.”

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino posted on X that federal agents are on-site “to provide any requested support necessary,” while Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed she was receiving regular updates. “Such violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling. Please join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy,” Bondi wrote.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also responded on X: “My heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community. Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable. I am grateful to the first responders who took action quickly. We will continue to monitor this situation and hold the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints in Grand Blanc close.”

Authorities from the FBI, ATF, and local police are jointly investigating.
