The tranquil realm of Chandni Chowk was shattered with an audacious theft at a popular textile showroom, leading to widespread apprehension among the local populace. The incident unfolded on a seemingly ordinary Monday afternoon when the calm was shattered by the sudden intrusion of two hostile men. Brandishing firearms, they shattered the glass door and absconded with a sum of Rs 35 lakh in cash.
Since the occurrence of the crime, the law enforcement authorities have been able to apprehend four individuals suspected of being involved in the robbery. Remarkably, among the detained is a former prisoner of Tihar Jail, notorious for his criminal past, who is speculated to have been instrumental in the planning and execution of this audacious act.
The ordeal began in the middle of the day around 2 PM, which was when the owner of the establishment became aware of the crime and reported it to the local police. According to his recounting of the events, a pair of unidentified men infiltrated his workspace, unleashed a hail of bullets, and hastily evaded the area after securing the money.
An additional outlaw was strategically placed outdoors, aiding in the swift escape of his compatriots. Promptly reacting to the incident, the officers of the law assembled several units, focused on the immediate capture of these culprits.
The investigation employed video footage obtained from security cameras on the site of the crime. This revealed critical information, showing the direction the thieves took post the robbery towards Bagh Diwar Masjid.
The next significant lead came from a local auto-rickshaw stationed near the Old Delhi Railway Station. It is presumed that the criminals hired this ride as a part of their escape plan. The law enforcement arrived at Shahdara, following the path led by the auto-rickshaw, and the driver was subjected to rigorous questioning.
Further investigation led the police to surmise that after escaping Shahdara, the culprits had ventured further towards Loni in Ghaziabad and eventually reached Baghpat located in Uttar Pradesh. The identification process was further enhanced following a round of photo circulation in Baghpat region, which aided the police in identifying one of the suspects involved in the case.
A subsequent arrest was made at Indira Colony, where another accomplice was taken into custody. The captures did not merely end here – law enforcement authorities recovered Rs 13 lakh in cash from his possession. The information attained from the captured suspect further led to the arrest of another accomplice, and an additional recovery of Rs 6.5 lakh.
A continuous, tireless investigation led the police force to another suspect, thanks to his activity on a social media platform. His location was traced back to Rohtak, a city located in the state of Haryana. After police apprehended him, another recovery of Rs 7.8 lakh was made.
Following the third suspect’s confession, the police managed to capture a fourth player in this elaborate thievery scheme. This apprehension occurred also within the borders of Rohtak, leading to extra funds of Rs 6.5 lakh being seized.
The final suspect’s past pointed towards a distinct early connection with the planning and execution of the heist. Previous records indicated that he was imprisoned in Tihar Jail until 2023 for a similar offense.
It also surfaced that he made acquaintance with another criminal during his time in prison, sharing social media IDs with each other. This technological connection opened up a channel of communication between the two, which was potentially employed for recce prior to the robbery.
The suspect’s accomplice maneuvered a detailed reconnaissance of the showroom in question, orchestrating the entire operation with the other participators to ensure its successful execution. The criminals positioned themselves strategically outside the Old Delhi Railway Station, while two from their group executed the crime at the showroom.
Following their audacious act, they vacated the crime scene, retreating towards Baghpat where they purportedly split the illicitly obtained cash, signifying the end of a criminal act that sent ripples across the quiet community life of Chandni Chowk.
