Authorities Identify Woman Killed in ICE Encounter as Renee Nicole Good
The woman shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer during Wednesday’s immigration operation in Minneapolis has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good.
Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, confirmed her daughter’s identity to the Minnesota Star Tribune and expressed disbelief over the events that led to her death. “She was probably terrified,” Ganger said. “Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known… loving, forgiving, and affectionate.”
According to Ganger, her daughter was not involved with the anti-ICE demonstrations that erupted throughout the city. “She’s not part of anything like that at all,” she said.
Before Good was publicly named, Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who represents the district where the incident occurred, claimed the woman was acting as a “legal observer.” That claim has yet to be independently verified.
President Donald Trump weighed in on the situation late Wednesday, describing Good as “very disorderly, obstructing, and resisting” before “violently, willfully, and viciously” running over an ICE officer. Trump stated the officer acted “in self-defense.”
The fatal encounter was caught on video from multiple angles. In the footage, Good appears to be blocking the road with her car as ICE agents approach. She does not comply with repeated commands to exit the vehicle. At one point, she appears to reverse briefly and then drive forward, making contact with one officer. That officer, standing in front of the car, opened fire, striking Good in the head. She later died at a local hospital.
DHS has called the incident an act of domestic terrorism, citing threats ICE agents are facing in sanctuary cities across the country. Multiple agents sustained minor injuries but are expected to recover.
As news of Good’s death spread, anti-ICE protestors flooded the streets. Demonstrators clashed with federal law enforcement, throwing snowballs and attempting to block vehicles. Agents responded with crowd-control measures, including tear gas. DHS said additional ICE agents and federal officers are being deployed to maintain order.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has activated elements of the state’s National Guard amid fears of escalating unrest. Walz has also promised a full investigation and accused the Trump administration of spreading misinformation about the shooting.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey continued his heated rhetoric from the day before, again telling ICE to “get the f*ck out” of the city. “There is little I can say that will make this situation better,” Frey said. “But I do have a message for our community, and I have a message for ICE. We do not want you here.”
Federal officials have not backed down. The White House says the operation in Minneapolis is part of a broader crackdown on fraud, illegal immigration, and cartel activity tied to criminal networks in sanctuary cities.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension now leading the review.
