Barbra Streisand Melts Down: Calls for Resistance as Trump Returns to Power

Barbra Streisand is panicking over President Donald Trump’s second term — and she wants Hollywood to resurrect a Cold War-era protest group to fight back.

In an open letter posted on Instagram, the aging liberal icon said the country is “in deep trouble under Trump’s regime” and praised fellow activist Jane Fonda for trying to revive the Committee for the First Amendment — a group originally formed to oppose the Hollywood blacklist during the McCarthy era.

Streisand compared today’s political climate to the 1950s, accusing Trump of threatening democracy and free speech. “Our voices are always stronger together,” she wrote. “Jane, I appreciate your continued activism and voice in these scary times.”

The letter comes as Trump continues to roll back Biden-era policies, with sweeping reforms to immigration, education, energy, and the federal bureaucracy — all while launching aggressive crackdowns on anti-government agitators and expanding scrutiny of partisan influence in media and tech.

Fonda, who has long courted controversy for her radical politics — including her infamous trip to North Vietnam — recently declared her intent to revive the First Amendment committee her father, Henry Fonda, once supported. The new version is being framed by Fonda and Streisand as a resistance movement against what they claim is authoritarian overreach by the Trump White House.

Critics, however, see the effort as pure political theater.

“Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda pretending to be free speech heroes is laughable,” one user posted on X. “These are the same people who applauded censorship when it silenced conservatives.”

The 82-year-old Streisand has repeatedly attacked Trump in the past, calling him a “liar” and “dictator,” and even once suggested she might leave the country if he won reelection. Now, instead of booking a flight, she’s pushing public letters and doubling down on Hollywood activism.

Whether the entertainment elite’s resistance gains traction or fades into another episode of celebrity melodrama remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Trump’s second term is triggering a full-scale meltdown among liberal icons — and Streisand just hit the panic button.
